Thank you! It actually turned out great! It took forever to do, my husband actually hand drew and painted a beautiful pattern in one of the stripes....I'm going to try my very best to get some before and after pics up very soon.

Recycling? If you need to paint go to your local hazo hut. It is where people take left over paint and you can get paint for nothing. If you can't find what you want get colors and mix your own. Just don't mix acrylic with oil. Blessings emoticon emoticon

Okay, so the color scheme I decided to go with is chocolate brown, yellow (somewhat golden), and lime green with white trim. There is one large and blank wall that will be white with two colums of chocolate that will have white flowers stamped throughout with freehand outlines in yellow and green. It's really hard to imagine, but when it's all said and done I promise to post some before and after pictures! YAY!

Wow...there are so many ideas here. I have an open concept kitchen/living room area and there are windows all around it that just have blinds on them. The room is white with plain wood trim that has been stained red...after 6 years of living in this house we have only painted my sons room when we were getting it ready as a nursery...I'm definitely looking to put some color into this room, but can't figure out which way to go. I like a little bit of everything so I am very torn on my color scheme...I'd like to do a bold color on two walls that come to an L and then a more neutral color on the other 2 walls...hmmm...and the bold colors do not have to be the same color. :) I'm so excited at the idea of having some fun with this room.

I am currently painting 2 corner hutches and a magazine rack to brighten the place up. To reuse, I am taking paint that I used on the kids' rooms (some crazy bright kid colors) and mixing them with white to create a new, more appealing hue. I am learning to sew in hopes of making some curtains and quilts. The magazines always suggest buying some throw pillows to change a look, but pillows are at least $10 a pop! I can make my own slipcovers for the ones I already have! A couple of blog sites for all you arts and crafts lovers:

brownpaperpackages.com

crapi'vemade.com

fingerprintsonthefridge.com

I got some really great ideas that use a lot of materials I already own.

I just found design*sponge, and I'm also completely obsessed with the before and after section. Last Friday was an unexpected day off for me so I went to the site...the world faded away around me...2-1/2 hours later I came to the last before/after post in the archive. It was exhausting and my butt was asleep, but I had SO many ideas. Now I'm hauling old furniture from my attic down to my studio, and I bought some pretty giftwrap papers over the weekend. Now where's my sandpaper and paintbrushes...?

I don't really have a specific style. I like just about everything or a little bit of everything. I trend toward the unusual. I like to take people by surprise.

I am ready for a change in my kitchen already...I just painted it 3 years ago but it was quite the conversation piece at first. Deep teal walls, black and lime green accents. Silvery green long flowing curtains with chocolate brown sheers. I have an open concept so my living room was painted in a minty green, chocolate sofas, blue-green-brown throw pillows in different patterns. I had sage green curtains with an embossed embroidery. I only had three panels so there is one panel in the middle one on each side. Then in the middle of each panel is a chocolate sheer that was too long (got them on sale) so I pulled the sheers off to the side and created a scarf with them. Very elegant looking and I was actually shocked when a conservative neighbors jaw-dropped when she walked in.

I have been finding that there is a lot more colour than there used to be.. Not so much white anymore. I very much want my house to look like the houses on designsponge.com. I am a little obsessed with the before and after section of the site. Mostly because they take things that are ugly and old and add a little colour and fabric and voila it's gorgeous! I want to be take a chair and reupholster it with funky fabric, but I haven't found the chair yet! Here is the website though, it's kind of really fun for the thrifty, funky, diy-er. www.designsponge.com

We just finished our bathroom. We built our house 10 years ago and did the whole house in cool pastels (we live on Cape Cod) I wanted to try something different, so I went with sunset orange. I am very pleased and my son said, Mom, I love the bathroom, but I would never guess that you would use that color.
Now I'm going to redo each room at a moderate pace and try some of the other new colors.

We are painting our cabinets black. It is a high gloss cabinet paint and looks great so far! Sure will be glad when it is over though!

I have to paint my kitchen cabinets soon. I have a open floor plan. the rest of the walls are kind of navajo white and the kitchen counters are tiled white with a white tiled floor.

I am really broke but I am putting the house on the market in about a month. I messed up a few years ago and painted one of the cabinet doors when I was painting some other cabinets.

My question is what is the current trend or color that would go well with white tile and navajo white.

We're in the midst of redoing our kitchen, also. We found a bunch of re-purposed maple flooring and made it into some great, warm countertop to replace our sad Formica. I'm very happy with it, both visually and economically!

Wow! I love refinished and repurposed furniture and those color choices sound really peaceful. I'm not surprised the economy is affecting people's decorating choices. It would be affecting mine if I didn't already try to save money every way I can.

We just redid our kitchen for under $300 bucks by reusing, refinishing and reshaping discarded cabinets, from someone elses kitchen remodel! It came out amazing! A lot of work, but there is so much out there then can be made into something new! You just have to get creative!

Thanks for the idea. The room is barely lilac. Considered painting it the same color.

I have an older house with dark, reddish colored wood work and love it, but need to add a cabinet to a small bathroom. I am concerned that more dark wood in a small room will make it appear too dark. Any ideas?

I'm refinishing furniture, & I love the darker ones they used to use in houses. I absolutely love the house in the TV show "Charmed". Maybe that dark wood will come back.

A Guide to the Latest Home Decorating Ideas

A sour economy, a desire to simplify, green living, renewed interest in the past and hope for the future converge to create the color and interior design trends for 2010.

Believe it or not, economic and social trends have a profound effect on the interior and home decor trends for the upcoming year. From fashion to environmentalism, what society holds dear is reflected in color and decor trends.

During 2010, interior decorating trends will reflect a return to family and an interest in preserving and exploring the past, as money and the pursuit of things will take a back seat.

Color Reflects the Past
Stress over the current economic recession translates to a yearning for the better days of the past. Aged, heirloom colors and distressed finishes remind people of their pasts, and will be a strong trend in the year/s to come.
Hues such as earthy browns, aged greens and smoky blues will be reflected in both paint and fabric.

The current trend of repurposed and recycled furniture and accessories intensifies in 2010. Fueling this trend, in part, is a strong interest in green living.

By reusing, repainting and refinishing items instead of discarding them, people are doing a small part to protect the earth. Using these items in their original, distressed finishes will continue to be popular.

Interior Design Revisits People's Roots
As a part of the desire people have to revisit the past, trend analysts are seeing a resurgence of interest in the ancestry of individuals. As a part of this return to their roots, people will long for patterns and colors with a global influence.

Aboriginal, Native American and African tribal patterns, including bold geometric prints, will be front and center this year.

Vibrant, yet subdued colors such as amber gold, tomato red and ocean blue will accompany these daring patterns.
Tempered by putty and desert sand neutrals, the bold patterns and colors of this trend are very usable in today’s home interior.
