Tomorrow I am starting the Biggest Loser Fall Challenge and I think that will help get me back on track again.

My biggest hurdle is working through the pain of arthritis in my joints and at times makes it really hard to exercise. But I am NOT going to let that stop me.

I do plan on following the plan again.

One of the other tenants of the program is "It's not what you eat, it how and when you eat." I eat when I am truly not hungry. That is my downfall.

The one thing I learned about sugars...it's not the candy and deserts that get us, it's all the other places sugar are hidden that I never thought about. Milk, cereals, breads, yogurts, and many other foods where you never think of sugar being them. If the label says more than 10g, I will stay away from it.

As for exercise, I need to come up with a plan. I have followed the 28 Day Boot Camp here before, I may use that to start off again.

Make good choices

Matt

I'm always looking for new things (exercises) to do. I want to try to mix things up so I don't get bored. I live in Michigan where winter can sometimes be never ending and it's hard to keep workouts going in the winter. The elliptical gets boring after a while. Spring and summer are a great time to get motivated again.

Welcome to the team I hope to see you on some of our challenges.

Hi Matt,

Old threads are still good threads :). It sounds like you found something that works for you, do you plan on working with that program again? I find sugar to be a slippery slope for me, especially chocolate and other desserts.

Spring is a good time for revitalizing a strategy. I am very much looking forward to nicer weather and more daylight!

Nice to see this thread re-invigorated! I'm always looking for ways to 'get back on track'.

I'm hoping that spring, and the yard work involved, will get me going. I'm at my highest weight ever and am so uncomfortable! Nothing fits!

3 more weeks 'til the end of 'tax season' and then maybe...

I will revive an old thread.

I started the whole journey several years ago with my highest recorded weight of 230 lbs. During that first journey, I managed to get to 203 lbs and held fast...for a while. Since then I have reinvented myself several times. I have gone as high as 220 lbs and as low as 192 lbs. I am currently at 210 lbs, which seems to be my set weight.

My best success was using a weight loss program that was offered through work called Naturally Slim. It worked for me, but a total disregard for the steps sent me back up. To be honest, when I hit the 192, I was sick for about a two weeks, and not eating and barely drinking anything.

The main focus of the program was to eliminate added sugars and to eat slowly.

That does make it hard to pinpoint what changed. Sometimes it seems like our bodies want to lose weight and sometimes it doesn't.

Not sure how I missed this thread but...I got down to 125 after I left my husband in '09. Since then, I've gained it all back and much more. I'm not sure what I did to lose it, I was driving a feed truck and payloader (mostly sitting) when I lost it and working at a feed store, (mostly moving) when I started gaining it back. I know that the Jack and Coke is not helping now but I wasn't drinking a lot of my calories when I started gaining it back.

Thank you. It is been a while now, over16 years.

I like chocolate and salty snacks. But not necessarily sweets. My big problem is with regular food. I've been doing the measuring cup and weighing out thing. The nice thing about it being close to fall as I will make soups and that will make nice healthy lunches. That'll help cut down on some of the not so healthy stuff that I eat.

Congratulations on quitting smoking LAKENDAL!

I too love to eat. I really love sweets. I love to cook and bake and try more things. That is really hard for me to balance that and the need to eat less.

*sigh*

My main weight gain was from quitting smoking. I gained 40 plus pounds. Then through hard work diet and exercise I lost 25 lb. I looked good and felt good. Then like many others before me I stopped exercising and what back to eating whatever I wanted and gained even more weight. Now I've been trying to exercise more and really trying to eat better. I still have a very hard time with the food. I love food and seem to have no self-control. I've been good with the portion control but I seem to have trouble staying away from pizza and all those other good things that are not so good for you.

I'm working on it, but it's a struggle.

The "you" in this title totally includes me.

So for me: how did this happen? Well I was making a push for my last 15 pounds or so. I was really pushing, for years. Over time I had gone from a non-runner to having completed a marathon. I had gone from a normal American diet to healthy eating, then very strict vegan. Nothing was working and I started putting weight on while losing muscle strength. Eventually I just got tired of it all. I wasn't listening to my body and doing what I thought I wanted. It rebelled.

So to keep this from happening again, I am not going to push too hard. I will listen to my body and take things slowly. I am no longer focused on a scale number, but on how I feel. The goal is to be healthy, not a weight at which other people tell me I am healthy.

Losing weight and/or being healthy is a long term process. By identifying what has and has not worked in the past we can figure out what we need to do going into the future.

Since you found the Relighting the Spark team, that means at some point you were on track then fell off track.

How did this happen?
and
What are you going to do to keep it from happening again?
