NASFKAB,
It is, basically a tale of a middling harvest for colonizers, after years of depending on the local people to keep them afloat and not starving.

History suggests that the first American thanksgiving, Canada celebrates one earlier, featured lobster and mollusks, which were considered trash/bycatch in. The early days of the country.

I cannot imagine the expense if lobster had stayed on menus.

My saved money multiplied. I will go out with a friend, and simply make the two things I appreciate as leftovers, dressing and cranberry sauce.
Maybe pumpkin nice cream, which is blended bananas with flavors added.

We do not celebrate Thanksgiving in our part of the world. I think your cake will be popular.

Miraculously, I have a three day weekend from Thanksgiving Ďtil the following Sunday.
So,Iím thinking of hosting a Friendsgiving on Friday, or a small gathering on Thursday.

I feel I should have a main dish for the omnivores, as well as my ďit was always about/stuffing and cranberry sauceĒ centric veggie feast.

How do you keep costs down on these seasonal feasts?

We donít eat enough bread to save up large amounts for stuffing/dressing. I do have a big chunk of challah in the freezer. With a bag of stuffing mixĒ I should be good. Plus I can pick up dayold sourdough.
Have plenty of veggies and scraps in the freezer for stock.
Pumpkin in a can is hovering near a dollar per.
Iíve already got frozen fruit for desserts. Pies or crumbles. And maybe a spiced cake. Iím betting Iíll have requests for the cake.
