I've had a problem with insomnia since I was an infant. I occasionally take benedryl, naturopathic physician prescribed pulsatilla, a botanical which helps.
Because of reflux, I rarely eat late, so even if I feel hungry, I usually don't have anything.
Tell you one other thing that has helped. If I can't sleep, I no longer go on the computer to play videos games, or read, or do email. I'm convinced that the light works against my ability to sleep.
Wishing everyone, sweet dreams.

I just joined this team and i am soooo glad i did!! This literally is the NUMBER 1 problem I have had on this lovely diet journey :) lol. I have taken Benadryl, OTC, Natural sleep aids, ambien...ect...tried it all. They all do it to me!! the ONLY thing that I have found that kind of stops me from eating like it's my last meal is texting...haha..kinda crazy cuz the pills make u drowsy and the idea is to stop my mind (anxiety keeps me up) but I have found that if I just text a gf about anything..plans, my workout from the day, whatever, my mind gets a little sidetracked and I dont make it to the kitchen. I guess this theory might work with a journal too, it's not fool-proof lol but its worth a shot. ANY other suggestions are more than welcome here!! emoticon

I'm bad with that when I take the Ambien. The Benadryl and OTC sleep aids don't do anything. Someone said it is like Ambien switches off the controls that say STOP! so I just mindlessly eat, or worse, not remember eating. emoticon

I am the very same way. Only I have myself convinced that if I get up and eat something I actually sleep better that my stomach has to be full. Makes me feel just like a Pig eat & sleep

I don't take a sleeping pill but I take Mirapex, Klonopin and blood pressure meds at night. And night time eating is killing me. I do great all day, really motivated and then evening comes. And I just want to eat-----anything and everything. But I have always been that way but more so now. I try to fight it, but that old part of my brain that says I need to eat, always seems to win out. HELLLPPPPPP. No one seems to have a solution to this problem. Woe is me.

Yes, the night time eating right before I fall asleep on benedryl is my biggest issue. I do good all day and then eat myself to sleep. The binge usually starts in the TV room while the medicine is kicking in so I have started not staying in there long.

Angel: Boy, for a long time I thought I was the only one dealing with this problem. Like you I do beautiful all day. My calories are in control, eat healthy, keep track of everything------Then night time comes and everything I accomplished during the day is undone. There have been times when I hated night time. I really feel like an addict. Night time is out of control----why? I don't understand. Even though I do have Restless Legs Syndrome, why the none stop eating??????

Like you, I only sleep a couple hours at a time. And then during the day, I am soooo tired.

What to do????

I can relate to all of you! My sleeping habits are out of control and have been for years now. I take prescribed meds and they keep changing them. Now, I can fall asleep (most of the time) but don't stay asleep for very long. Soon, I am up wandering the house on and off all night and eating crap. I am great with my nutrition during the day, but these late night binges are wrecking all the work I am putting into a healthier lifestyle!

During the day I exercise for a minimum of 30 minutes, watch my portion size, fat and calorie intake. I have been at this for over 4 months now and I am not really seeing any results because of these late night eats.

Ugh!

JUST BELIEVE and anything can happen!

I've tried taking benedryl and a generic sleep aid. I can't say I've had much success with either. The first night I took the sleep aid it worked great but the next two night I was up alot again. Benedryl works okay for awhile but then I guess I get used to it and it doesn't help anymore. Although I do think its helpful for my allergies.

I have no solution to your night time eating. I have the same problem. And had it even before taking meds.

Good idea for snacking. But sometimes I over do it even on healthy foods.

My shrink prescribed the following to help me fall asleep better, three seroquel fifty milligrams each , and one Celexa also known as Citilopram twenty milligrams.
The funny thing , if I'm very tired then those medicines will work like a charm, but if I'm antsy, then I'll awaken every hour and be very groggy too. John New York

Take care and be well. John/New York

If I don't get in bed right after I take my meds I will start eating...like a last hurrah. I'm conscious of it and I know I'm doing it, but I just can't exert the controls that say STOP. There are also times where I'll wake up and binge, but not having stuff in my house has really helped...like candy, ice cream, etc....Apparently, my subconscious has no desire to binge on apples! lihnel, the ingredient that helps you go to sleep in tylenol sleep is the same as in benadryl. i was taking 1-2 benadyrl each night for my alllergies and to help me sleep. I was also taking Vistaril, and the other day i asked my doc if other people have an increased appetite when they take this. she said that vistaril and other drugs like benadryl have a tendency to increas appetite. i'm gonna stick to xanax as a sleep aid for a while. emoticon bummer!!!!

I have the same problem, I will do great all day and take the tylenol simply sleep; I then find that I've eaten a whole tin of gourmet popcorn by morning. Last night I ate Godiva chocolates and two hot pockets. This is a habit that I am finding very hard to break!

I have never had that happen to me. You probably should let your doctor know as that is a possible side-effect of the meds.

I take 1 mg of Lunesta and that seems to help me with sleep. If I ever get up during the night it is to use the restroom and then back to bed.

Hoping that you find something that works for you.

I take Ambien and I ate late at night also. Put on 20 lbs doing that. Now I take the Ambien 30 min. before bedtime and make myself go to bed. Have been doing that for 1 week and it seems to help. Good luck...I know how hard this problem is.

I use to-once I bought a chocolate cheesecake, and ate half that night, than chips,choc-whatever that was easy and "bad" for me-what I did was not buy cheesecake(killing me) but anyhow I just started to grab good food-grapes,cherry tomatoes, even a slice of ham rolled in a piece of provolone cheese(better than if bread was added)

after you take your sleep meds do any of you experience night binges?

this is my biggest hurdle it is totally messing my diet up. i can be asleep and wake up after a couple of hours and watch out kitchen! Also i can take the sleep meds and when I start feeling sleepy i just start having these cravings.

Anyone experience this?

Does anyone have any solutions?
