I love eating fish. I know that as a diabetic it is essential for me to eat fish at least 3 times a week. I will save the article to keep me apprised of making safe fish choices.
Good article. I had to laugh when they said to choose wild salmon over farmed--I already do that for a totally different reason, the environment! XD Huzzah on a win-win situation there.

Good article on seafood safety, thanks! I like albacore tuna, and since it also comes in 3 oz cans in water, I'm going to have one can per week, just be extra safe.
Good thing my dad's allergic to sharks so we don't eat that, even though some of us in the family don't have the same allergic. Our fishes here are fresh but this article made me wonder if what we always buy has high level mercury and those fishes not listed in the article. I'm in the UK and tinned tuna is either in brine or oil. Am I correct in assuming the light tuna you refer to is the same as ours in brine?
We used to eat albacore tuna but have switched to light tuna instead. It's also cheaper than albacore.
I found this very useful as I hadn't been aware that the 'size' of the fish could greatly reflect on the amounts of Mercury you may be eating in you fish!
Local fish is fresher anyway. I grew up down on the gulf just below Tallahassee, FL. I'm used to fresh fish. It's tough being a state away now and having to have frozen fish.
I enjoyed the article but wish they grouped the fish in categories of what's most dangerous to eat for us, than the environment. For instance, I LOVE Chilean Sea Bass but don't know if it's only an environmental issue, or is it truly dangerous to eat.

My husband is a commercial fisherman and we have FRESH seafood almost year round. Nothing beats fresh seafood. Imports and fish farms are putting the small commercial fishermen out of business. If we had a house payment or any large bills my husband would have to quit the business and find a job. Right now we have fresh oysters, in the summer fresh shrimp and in the spring and fall it's fish. The price of seafood to the fisherman (Not in the market) has stayed pretty much the same the same for the past 20 years! Gas prices have more than tripled in that time. Because of polution and overdevelopement along the coast have the population of seafood is declining in all species. We live in coastal NC and our small Island is being developed to the point where we no longer have a Fish Market to sell to. The small fisherman is going the way of the small farmer. Buy local, fresh, seafood direct from the fisherman
whenever you can. Both buyer and seller will benefit.

Great article. CarlI5, I wouldn't eat anything from China, so I agree with you. I check all packages to see where the food comes from including fruit and fish.
