This is my favorite Spark People article! It inspired me to start running. The tip about slowing down was genius. Two years later and I'm up to running 7 miles, 3-5 times a week at a good pace (9:30 minutes/mile). Running has been awesome, not just keeping my body healthy but greatly reducing anxiety and depression too. Report

I think a lot of the so-called "beginner" programs are too intense for someone just starting out. I recently read Galloway's book, and he recommends starting with just 5 seconds every minute. I'm taking that a step further with 5 seconds every 5 minutes. Galloway makes a compelling case for starting slowly and for incorporating walk breaks, even for elite athletes. Report
