Setting a timer, watching a tv show, all can be signals to eat more slowly to make the meal last a half hour.

Put your fork down in between bites to keep from overeating. When you eat more slowly, you allow your mind to recognize when your body is full.
I'm already a slow eater and find I have to speed up to keep up with family
