i am 47 years old and weight 185 lbs. I had different goals in the past but want to change them and begin anew. I used to focus only on wanting to lose 43 lbs. Now I have learned here at SparksPeople that I should focus on my diet. It's a mess. I need to change from eating out and junk foods and bingeing. I will look more closely at the way I eat. I want to redo my diet to include 2 fruits and 2 veggies a day. I want to cook more at home and cook healthy recipes that are simple but delicious. I want to teach my son how to eat right but I must change our diets in order to set a good example for him before he goes off to college in a couple of years. My new goal is to, by August, 2008, make the changes permanent that I have mentioned. I want to live healthy and for my son to live a healthier life. I have to reach this goal for both of us. Then I can focus more on weight loss. Time to get healthy!

My Goals:
I will learn how to cook more healtful meals.
I will add 2 veggies daily and 2 fruits to mine and my son's diet.
I will drink 8 or more glasses of water (my son already does this).
I will continue to read up on how to eat right.
I will reach these goals by August 31, 2008.


My Program:
Choose lunch and dinner meals for a week, make a shopping list and stick to what's on the list.
Choose fruits in season.
Choose recipes that include veggies.
Eat meals at dinner table.



Personal Information:
Single mom, writer. Have Bipolar I disorder with rapid cycling of mood swings and mixed states (mix of moods at same time-most difficult to deal with). Love God. Love People. Love SparkPeople.


Other Information:
Love to read. My son and I love to watch movies together. I love to take photos and hope to get better at it. I love to write. Love our maine coon cat, Lily.

    Pick one step, just one step- exercise for 10 min a day- drink 8 glasses of water- just one step more than you have been doing- then do it.
    Don't try to do it all at once- get good at one thing, then slowly, slowly, slowly, add more.

    Hi. I read one of your posts and can completely relate to the negative feelings you have about yourself right now (take a look at my picture here on SP).

    This site is FANTASTIC if you use it, log your food - even if you have a 3000 calorie day, use the support here, make sure to move your body any way you can. I joined a gym and had a session with a personal trainer in the beginning so I'd know what to do from the get go. I can't recommend it highly enough - even though you have physical struggles the right trainer can help you come up with something to get you moving.

    There are family focused gyms out there and I have found that many members of my gym have physical issues they must work around. It's certainly not all skinny minis and muscle bound bozos, though we've got them and, they're actually pretty helpful sometimes.

    I was 204 when I started SP in January and was completely hooked on fast food and sweets. I gorged and felt horrible afterward - daily.

    Eight months later I am 169 with only 15-20 pounds left to loose. I couldn't breath either and now I jog on the treadmill, am doing weight training (now that's empowering) and, though it wasn't my goal, men notice me - often. I've gone from a size 18W to a size 12 and am confident that I'll be a 10 soon. If I can get away from emotional eating I know you can.

    Keep a good attitude, use the negative feelings you have toward where you are now to empower you to move forward. Turn them into something positive. If you have to log a week of heavy eating and no exercise (which I have) do it. After a while, being accountable to yourself by logging your food will bring on change. You'll learn from your mistakes - I promise.

    This site does work and you can literally recreate yourself when you're dedicated. Do not give up. Log in often every day and practice CONSCIOUS EATING. Pay attention to how much of what you eat and log it all. The entire SP community is here for you. You can do it!!!!!!

    To create your recipe with "Rcipe Calculator" and add it to your meal plans... here are the steps:
    To create your cookbook:

    * Under Healthy Lifestyle tab, click on SparkRecipes.com
    * Click on the "Recipe Calculator" tab at the top and enter your recipe. I admit, this does take of bit of entry, but it's worth it.
    * Once it's created you have the option to save it to a Cookbook; please add it to your cookbook. You also have the option to add it to your meal planner. If this is a meal you have cooked or are planning to, I recommend adding it to your planner.

    I like to use this and then I just go ahead an post the recipe in the thread. I include the link to the recipe so if someone likes it, they can add it to their meals, makes tracking easier.

    To get pics on your page go to edit your sparks page and there you will see "edit my photo gallery" click on it and in the right hand corner you will see "upload Photos" click on that and then follow the instructions. If the picture is too big you can alway edit in a program that is on your computer. If you have any problems you can always spark me and I will try to help you. emoticon
