In 2006, I weighed 230 pounds, smoked, and never exercised. I joined Spark, lost almost 50 pounds, and became a runner. In 2009, I finished the NYC Marathon at about 185 pounds. In 2010, I tried to train for NY again but ended up with severe tibial stress reactions that sidelined me for several months, during which I took up cycling and swimming and became a triathlete.

In March of this year I was hovering around 193 pounds - offseason weight gain - when I lost my job and started a stint on my couch. Suddenly, I was over 200 lbs again, even though I had all the time in the world to train! Hhhmmmph. Guess it's time to get back in control, right? I have a few short races and fun rides planned to close out the year, and I intend to complete my first Half Iron (Timberman 70.3) in August of 2013.

I love to exercise - though I lack consistency - but I love to eat even more! My first goals include getting more consistent activity including weight training (which I neglect) and controlling my diet by favoring protein and healthy fats over carbohydrates.

    I was hoping the exercise would actually shake the funk out of my lungs (friday). Humidity probably didnt help, but I was feeling guilty from missed workouts. Instead the run, drove it deeper and I spent a fair chunk of Saturday feeling crummy and sorry for myself. Went to bed early Fri & Sat (TG I'm married and have an understanding DH) and now I'm still boogery, but feeling better. Did 5 miles this am. Not a PR, but it was good to be out.

    Thanks for the encouragement for my September goals! I think I'm going to print them out and post them next to my computer screen so I stop partaking in the treats all my coworkers keep bringing in!

    Hi! when I first joined SP a little over a year ago, I was newly-diagnosed as prediabetic. I put myself on the diabetes food tracker, which recommended up to 300-something grams of carbs a day! I knew that was crazy for me, so I took myself off that program and adjusted my food ranges to what I though was reasonable for me. I just know my body doesn't do well with a lot of carbs. It took me a long time to seriously consider a Paleo/primal kind of diet, but I think staying fairly faithful to this way of eating is what I really need. Hope you find success with it!
