I am now 42 and I have to change my eating habits. Diebetic and heart problems run in my family and I do not want to get any on them. I have 2 small children and I need to be more healthy and fit for them and myself.
I joined Sparkpeople about 4 yrs. ago. and didn't do much with it. I keep getting emails from them and then just around Christmas 2010 I received an email from Sparkpeople about their new book. I decided to buy the book. It finally made sense to me finally. It is not a diet but a lifestyle change. It is not about exercising for hours on end. All I had to do was commit to 10min. of exercise a day. I thought that was too easy. I can do that. I started my journey on Jan.1st,2011. It was hard at first getting back into exercise. I started out my first week for 10 min. on the treadmill . By the second week I went up to 15 min. on some days. I followed the nutrition tracker faithfully. I was shocked at first on how much I was really eating. I measure all of my portions now. I do find that it is a challenge inputting the food daily on the nutrition tracker but it is all worth it because the numbers keep going down on the scale. Don't get me wrong I have had some days where I have ate a few hundred calories more on some days but this time it is different. I don't beat myself up for my mistake I just watch what i eat for the next meal or try better the next day. It will be a challenge but I am up for it this time. I know in my heart that this will be the year for me to get down to 160 lbs by Feb./12. Then when I reach that goal then i will go for another 20lbs. I am on my way as I have set a small goal to lose 20+lbs. by my birthday which is March 31. I know that I will make it. I did make it. On March 28 I made my mini goal of 20lbs. Can't wait to see what the next 3 months will bring.
Can't wait to post new pictures of myself smaller. I have gone to long with this extra weight piling up since I got married in 1998. It is finally time to take charge of my life and to be healthier.
Had a little set back as we moved to Trinidad and came back a year ago. 2014 will hopefully be the year that I get myself back on track one day at a time. Will keep everyone posted.

    Brenda - thanks for getting back to me and nice to hear you are back in the area. I'm not doing so good on my goals. I've been ill and got off track not being able to exercise and gaining 10 lbs of what I'd lost. Got discouraged and went back to bad eating habits. Every day I say I'll get back on it and I've been disappointing myself. I had a surgical procedure 8 Jan. for my heart and I am now back to doing my aquafit exercises so that's a start. When my husband was working on his nutrition at the same time, it was much easier. Hopefully he'll get back on it after he's done his hockey season!

    Brenda - Hi! I was looking at the threads in the Calling All Canadians Forum and there was one for A-Z where we're from. I am originally from Port Hope but have lived in Peterborough for the last 17 years (if my memory serves me right and it often does not, lol). I'm 60, married for the second time, and have a married daughter and grandson. I opened it and did a search for Peterborough and saw a comment you had placed in 2011. I used the link to your SparkPage and discovered you are still an active member on SP and thought I'd write you a note and introduce myself. I just had a thought, before going on I should go up and read your profile and lo and behold, you were moving to Trinidad in May of 2012. Did you move or am I lucky enough to have found someone else on SP who lives in Peterborough?

    I hope I'm not sending this your way. I can't believe we actually had a snow day from school today. We got a couple of inches of snow last night, but it was that heavy slushy snow and a school bus slid into a ditch. That was why they closed school. I don't remember the last time we had a snow day in April. And tomorrow is looking worse - they are calling for 5 inches of snow and lots of ice.

    I hope your weather is not as bad. Where is that spring? I'm so ready. emoticon emoticon
