WHERE TO BEGIN?

On June 26, 2009 I was just "the average fat guy" walking into work. The next thing I know, I am riding in the back of an ambulance headed to a trama center hospital with a massive Pulminary Embolism.

HOW DID I GET HERE?

At this point I am not sure. This web site sure seems like a "chick" thing...not enough testosterone for me but..... OK, Kid #2 suggested I use this site for tracking calories and workouts.... She is a work out monster......no need for her to use this website....Who said I wanted to lose weight? The doctor never said I had to lose weight. Well maybe he suggested it once or twice..... I guess I was a little pissed off when I saw the physical description of me in the hospital...."Middle Aged" and "Obese". That hurt! I never thought of myself as Middle aged.... fat..... but not 'Middle Aged'

THE GOOD NEWS?

I fooled the doctors and actually lived to walk Kid #2 down the aisle one week after I went into the hospital.....The kid was threatening to call off the wedding....the heck with that; I had already spent a boat load...Luckily I got a pass from the doctors the day before the wedding...

WHAT NOW?

Well as long as I am here I might as well lose some weight.....

My Goals:
Short term: Be under 200 pounds by Xmas 2009.

190 lbs. by Feb. 1st.

178 by March 15th.

Long Term: Live!


My Program:
Stop going out with the 'boys' for lunch. I gained 40 lbs. in 4 years.

Walk 6 days/week until the doctor OK's me to work out at the gym.

Burn more calories than I consume.



Personal Information:
1 wife.

3 kids.

SoCal born & raised.

Live 15 minutes from the beach (Malibu)

I and the DH are movie freaks...and yes....I know...the popcorn really isn't good for you..erp..I don't get extra butter.. emoticon emoticon

    Ha ha. Yea - like every weight loss or health site, spark is definitely "chick" oriented, as you put it. But there is much less estrogen energy going on here than say at "Jenny Craig" or "Weight Watchers" and it is the supportive kind. And, there are guys corners and teams you can join if you want to discuss free weights, cooking on the grill, and the merits of michelob light. Plus, when you have met your goals there will be plenty here to encourage you to maintain your new fitness levels. One of my favorite things about the site is the nutrition tracker. Helps me to prepare my favorite foods and still keep track of sodium intake. It's a lot easier to learn to spot the huge sodium culprits with the tools available. Welcome to sparkpeople!
