1/07/11 I think the title on my page says it all. I first started Sparks in April of 09. Did great lost over 50 and had a bout of depression. Gained back 20 of it and decided I didn't want to be like this. February of 2010 I some started and didn't do to well at first but really got down to it in April. I was doing really well when I had an encounter with a pothole in the middle of a parking lot. Ended up breaking my left foot and my right big toe. Was confined to doing nothing for the first 2 weeks to let them start to heal. Once again the depression set in. Took 8 weeks to be able to walk again without a boot or crutches. The only problem was if I walked for a long period of time my left foot would hurt. So I have given it ample time to heal all the way. I'm sure it was more than needed, but at least its comfortable for me to walk for longer periods now.

In the mean time I have now gained back all but 7 of the pounds I lost first time around. I could sit here and hang my head in shame or I could lift my head up and say "Do Over". I pick "Do Over". I'm ready to start all over and do it all again.

I married my best friend on Dec 29th and I want to be around a long time to enjoy this wonderful life we have with each other. Next step is to find a job! Wish me luck!

2/24/10 OK, on the 21st, I took the bull by the horns and got my butt in gear to beat this. I had worked so hard to drop the 50+ pounds last year. I was proud of myself! Then it happened. Depression set in and I couldn't shake it. I'm pulling with both hands on the rope to pull me out of this and I'm getting back to me. Wish me luck. This time I'm praying I keep it going and hoping I won't give up.
Now it's time to get rid of the 20+ pounds I put back on.

8/9/09 Another 2 months have past and I'm down a total of 28.8 lbs. I averaged a 6 lbs per month loss these last 2 months, which is a little surprising considering all the extra cardio I added. In my head I thought I would be down more. Doesn't matter, there is a difference in the measurements which is good. I did have a hard time this past week but I think I'm past it and ready to go full steam ahead.
Getting worried about the cold weather coming soon. I't going to be hard to get into doing most of my cardio indoors. I love to be outside, feel the warmth of the sun, being in the water. Even though this has been a really crappy summer for being outside or in the pool. It's either way below normal temp wise or its raining. I will have to figure out fun things to do so I don't get bored.

6/9/09 Two months into it and I have lost 16.8 lbs. I have been following the Sparks guides to a healthier and fit me. So far I think I'm doing great. I know I feel better not only in a physical way but a mental way too. People think I'm doing this for just me, I'm doing it for my family. I'm not the type of person to buy foods one can have but not the other. I don't fix 2 different dinners. My family is doing this right along with me (they don't want to have to make their own meals). There isn't anything that I made before that I have stopped making. It may have changed a bit to make it healthier, but I'm not going to stop eating foods and dishes I have grown up on. Sparks has given me the tools I need for this.
I try to be a good role model for others in my life. I have a very dear friend that I have Sparked. She like me has fought the weight issues for quite a few years, however she also is diabetic. I want to be there for her to help her push through the tough times. We swim when the weather permits, walk other times, sometimes we do both. It gives us time to catch-up. I hope I inspire her half as much as she inspires me. If you are reading this please send her a message for a job well done. She has lost 10 lbs in the first 2 weeks she has been on Sparks. I am very proud of her. She is also teaching her daughters a healthier way of life. We want this weight cycle to end.
Last night for the first time in years I felt beautiful. (I had to get dressed up for my daughters 8th grade graduation) I didn't feel like I was embarrassing my family. (although I knew they never thought that way). I never got the impression last night that people were looking at the man in my life and wondering way he was with me. Its just a wonderful change that has come over me, and for that I will always be grateful for Sparks.

Start 4/7/09 A few months ago I realized I was slowly dragging myself down to a place I didn't want to be. I didn't like who I was or what I saw in the mirror. At that point I starting changing my lifestyle.
Even though I just joined Sparks I have been working on myself for the last 2 months and have seen great progress already. Really there isn't anything to it. Just wanting it badly enough and willing to take the time to work on me seems to be the magic I needed all along.
I have a wonderful family. A man who loves me for who I am, 2-daughters who make us crazy every chance they can (of course that is their job), a married son who has given me 2 beautiful grandsons. and great friends.
I want to be around for a long time to enjoy everything I have been blessed with.
