Seven years after I first started at Sparkpeople, I am back, now 59 years old, and seven pounds heavier than when I started the first time (now 270). I am not sure I feel ready for anything "long haul" but I plan to take baby steps until my head's in the game. I don't even know where to start but my health is at stake. I need to adopt lifestyle improvements to have the future I want to live.

I'm a 52 year old mother of three (two of whom have left home). I hope the Sparkpeople program's multi-pronged approach will help me on my path to a healthier life. Natural energy kept me going until a couple of years ago. Since then I have "felt my age" -- achy joints, always tired, etc. I need to give my body a break:)

I was normal weight until I had surgery 5 months after the birth of my first child. My weight skyrocketed, and it has been a seesaw battle ever since.

I am on the slow to moderate weight loss program, which I am really enjoying. It is generous in terms of flexibility, and unlike other attempts at weight loss I've been on, I never feel desperate in terms of hunger or energy levels. This feels sustainable!

Here is a deeply important question that BOOKWORM27S discovered. It absolutely applies to my life as well.:

It's official. There are at least two family weddings (both nieces) coming up. Dates are August 27, 2011 and July 12, 2012. Just two more motivations to keep working on the weight. Just added: Two more weddings! September 10 and October 2011.

Here is a challenge I have to do: "The Weekend Project"

I love to read. Here is a short list of some books I've read and enjoyed recently: "Cutting for Stone" by Abraham Verghese,
"Plainsong" by Kent Haruf, and
"Burnt Shadows" by Kamila Shamsie.

I used to love sports -- a ridiculous dream is to lose enough weight to find a team and sport to play for fun. I love the ocean -- we have a cottage in PEI. BTW, my Sparkpage background is the view from our cottage, and my daughter wrote the poem "Gentle Island".

    Thank you for thinking of me. I am very blessed to have friends who are doing their best to help me with things and keep me busy. Evenings are the hard time for me-that is when I am alone and really miss Bill. I continue tp work on all the multitude of things a person has to do after the passing of a spouse. My dining room table looks like a tornado hit it but I refuse to file anything until it is completely resolved!!

    My hip/back has been giving me fits. I went for bloodwork today and will see the dr next Wed. I have no idea what I did to it. Will discuss it when I see the dr. I have a busy dr schedule as I had to cancel some in Dec. I have to have my eyes checked on Fri. I have an appointment with my cardiologist and podiatrist later in the month.

    Hope all is going good for you and you are staying warm.

    I saw on the news tonight that you have a big cold sign over your area, hope it isn't too bad. Most everyone in the Midwest is complaining that winter has come too early. We are waiting for rain here that might come on Wednesday to clear the ash out of our air. We have been wearing face masks that keep the particulate out of your lungs now for the past week and a half. When it rains I imagine everything will be splotched with ashy mud.
    It's Thanksgiving on Thursday here.....or as my family calls it..."we came and killed off most of your people and gave them diseases day". Actually it's suppose to be about how the First Americans showed the stupid pilgrims how to not die the first winter. Then it evolved into a "harvest celebration" and now it is more about "eating yourself silly and watch football day". emoticon emoticon

    Just dropping by to say Hi and check up on how you are doing. We are muddling along. We finally got some cool weather and now too cold for this early in the year! Oh well at least we don't have snow to deal with. We took a week - went to the beach with friends and had a great time.

    Now it is almost our Thanksgiving so trying to prepare for that although I don't have to cook but will attend a community dinner.

    So sorry on the death of your dog. It is hard to loose them as they become such a part of your daily life. Non judgemental and always happy to see you, who wouldn't love that in their lives!! We've had two dogs, one a cock-a-poo and the other a Keeshound. Each one lived to be about 12. We've missed them both. Now we don't have any. I miss having a pet, but we also enjoy not having to rush home to "let the dog out".
    Nice weekend here, Beautiful sun sets. Tuesday is weigh in day for me and am hoping to have lost a couple of lbs. The week went well, even though I had a couple of nights when I was so hungry. I did find a new snack for me this summer....strawberries with Brianna's brand strawberry dressing. I put 1 Tbs. of that in a small dish and dip my strawberries into it. Pretty good flavor of sweet and tangy. emoticon
