Hi there! I am 34 and I recently moved to Boston from NY where I work in technology. I love fashion, especially vintage/thrift store stuff, reading, Entertainment Weekly and the Wire.

I have had a lifelong struggle with eating disorders and body dysmorphia and have crash dieted and compulsively exercised MANY times with very little success.

This all changed when, on April 20, 2005 I got sober. I lost 25 pounds after I quit drinking, a combination of no longer eating Taco Bell and Jack in the Box at 2 am, no more empty Jagermeister calories, and going on antidepressants which made me hyper and jittery. I then moved across country to NYC where my lifestyle included a LOT of fast walking.

At this point, I feel like it's important for me to adapt to a healthy lifestyle rather than relying on walking around a lot and being relatively young to stay in shape. The 25 pounds "dropped off" so quickly that I couldn't expect them to stay off forever.. and, unsurprisingly, since 2009 I have gained 20 pounds. None of my clothes fit any more!

(I'm 5 foot 3 and very small-boned if any of these numbers sound super low to you.)

My biggest problem is sugar, I am a white sugar addict and frequently eat candy bars, ice cream, cookies, etc. I honestly feel that I am powerless over sugar. As a result I try to stay away from it.

I would like to get back to my previous weight or at least back to a weight where I fit into my skinny jeans!

January Goals
1) Join a gym DONE
2) Go to the gym 3 times a week
3) No soda/energy drinks
4) Added sugar 2x/week
5) White flour 2x/week
6) 1 cigarette or less per day
7) No pasta
8) Fruits every day
9) Salads for lunch every day

My Program:
I go to a women's gym in Boston. I am a beginning runner, and I like taking a variety of group classes including yoga, strength training, and cardio.

For January, I am doing a "detox" that limits added sugar, flour, and fried food. I am trying to eat my fruits and veggies and cook at home.

My downfall is almost always sweets. I have a crazy sweet tooth and can eat 2 candy bars, a pint of Ben & Jerry's, etc. no problem. I've found that with sugar it's best just to leave it alone.
