In November of 2005, I was diagnosed with high blood pressure and borderline diabetes. My doctor placed me on medication for the HBP but told me dieting would probably improve my sugar problem. He suggested I cut out "white carbs" (sugar, white rice and white bread, and things like this.) I decided to try it for 6 weeks-if I didnt feel better then I would go back to my old habits of eating. By March of 2006, I had only lost 16 pounds and a couple of girls at work came to me and asked me if I would be interested in joining them for the fitness challenge that our local hospital was sponsering...
A team of three people needed to combine their weight loss each week and total percentage body fat weight loss at the end of 8 weeks got the grand prize (600.00 to split betweeen the three person team!
Needless to say I was in!
Making a long story short-we were so supportive of each other that our team won and the best of it was that I was down to 145 pounds!
We took two weeks off and rejoined for an additional 6 weeks!
We not only took first prize (175.00 a piece) but I was now down to 132! From this point on I have fluctuated from 134 to 128. I will not give up on getting to my ideal weight! My blood pressure is under control although I still need to take my meds. MY tryglycirides are perfect-with a drop of 100 points! I am feeling great and hopefully will be around for the next 50 years!

Fitness Minutes: 914

My Goals:
To discover the peace and serenity that I knew prior to the past 8 months, to walk all three dogs 1 hour every other day. To hit my goal weight of 117 by Labor day of 2008

My Program:
Redecorating and remodeling
using my free weights on Tues and Thurs and my ablounger on tues and thurs.
On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays I use my Gazelle Sprint Master......
Since the weather is breaking I will be walking the dogs for an hour on Mondays, Wednesday's and Saturdays.

I stay under 1200 calories a day, drink one gal. of water, and watch my carb intake.
Chicken breast, baked fish, and only 4 oz of red meat once a week.

I do stay away from foods that I shouldnt have such as whole cheese, ice cream and candy. I have no will power and it is easier for me not to have it anywhere in the house-if I see it I will eat it.....

My name is Deb and I am currently 52 years old. I really never had a weight problem until I was out of high school and took on "adult problems" I do not handle stress well and that is why I eat.
I love my family and my siberian huskies more than anything.
My philosphy: The more I know about people, the more I love my dogs!

    What a great read! I enjoyed reading how you immediately “snapped to” and got your numbers down by cutting carbs. And a bonus of losing weight, being recognized for it and being invited to be part of a team? Just so rewarding!!!

    Yes!! I'm here! I miss you too. How are your dogs? You know I've lost all of the huskies I had back when you were on SP so much. But I adopted a small skin-and-bones husky from a shelter (I missed huskies so much that I just had to get another one). I still have her (Sena) and a Great Pyrenees (Bacon) that I picked up off the side of the road. We're a motley bunch! Please stay in touch. I'd love to know how you're doing.
