I found this website on August 3rd, 2007. It was hard to believe that I could get so much help and information for free. I expected to find a free level and a paid premium level where I'd get the full benefits of the site. Thankfully this site is so much more than anything else.

I came here with almost 100 pounds to lose. I've been on diets before, too many to name. I'd have some results but never enough and never long term. I always knew that to make it last it had to be a lifestyle change. I just never had the motivation AND the knowledge to make it happen. I always said I wanted to make the change. I'd tell myself "OK, this time it's going to happen". It never did though, I'd still end up eating more than I should and making bad choices.

So what changed? If I knew I'd tell you. But I don't. I could say it's because I want to be around for my wife and kids. That's the truth but I've been married almost ten years and my oldest child was almost seven when I started. I could say that it's so I'll look and feel better. Also true but it never did the trick before. Somehow there was just a switch inside me that was finally flipped and I decided to really make it happen.

So far I've lost 50 pounds. I still have 15 - 30 more to go. I will know where I want to be when I get there. It's about how I look and feel, and my BMI and body fat percentage. The actual number that represents my weight means little. It means nothing in comparison to BMI and body fat.

I have SparkPeople to thank for much of the positive changes in my life in the past few months. I've also been doing some other things to improve my life and appearance. It will all come together around February which makes me think I'm on the right track. It will almost be like unveiling a totally new me. I can't wait to see the final result and see how life changes for the better from there.

The #1 key is motivation. If you don't really want it, nothing will work. But if you do want it bad enough, you can't fail. Period. That applies to everything in life, not just losing weight.

(PS: My name isn't really Freddy, he's just my alter-ego. But feel free to call me Freddy if you don't know my real name.)
