Hello I am Gina, NANA to my favorite girl, Danielle. My goal is simple I need to be able to keep up with her. The first time I took her to day care for her mom, I thought there is no way I can get this girl and her diaper bag all the way down the hall. I was red and out of breath before I got to the infant room. That was the turning point for me.

I have always for as long as I can remember had a problem with my weight. I use to tell myself it was not what I was eating, heck I didn't even eat that much so how could it be my problem. I have gained about 5 pounds a year since I was in high school. So it is not like I just got this way over night, I sort of just got use to it.. Then of course I started feeling like I was 75 years old instead of 40. So the day finally came when the big C word came into my life CANCER. I was told in November of 2007 I had Thyroid Cancer. Now after having my Thyroid removed and am finally feeling betterand I am cancer free. So I said to myself this is the time for me. My kids are practically grown , my youngest is 16 so it is time for me to do something for me.

So now I have learned of course I really did not eat much, but it was WHAT I was eating. A sausage sandwich every morning from Tim Hortons and a double-cheeseburger meal from McDonalds was the caloric equivalent to my entire days worth of food. I would snack on an entire bag of chex mix and then go home and have a pretty good size country dinner. My mind was saying oh youonly have three meals a day and a snac. I am not sure if I will ever be able to not keep a journal. It has been the most amazing tool.

Exercise of course has become a habit in my life. It is not that I didn't want to exercise I just didn't make time for it, I worked a lot and when I wasn't working I was on the couch reading or on the phone, most of the time I was working or studying taxes. I am actually starting to miss it if I don't work out. I use to see people jogging down the street and I would think man I wish I had that much energy, Well Duh I think I have figured out the secret.

I am counting calories and being very mindful of really making sure I am hungry when I am eating and not just eating because there is nothing better to do. Also I am starting to exersice. I am already feeling better,

My name is Genia and I live in Michigan. I have always been "heavy". I have always had a Thyroid Problem and last year they finally removed my thyroid and goiter, and it turned out I had Thyroid Cancer. Now that my meds are under control it is time for to get control.
