Hi! I'm Jan. When I joined Spark People eleven years ago, I weighed 250lbs. Spark People helped me lose and maintain an 80lb weight loss for four years but a severe car accident in October 2013 resulting in a fractured skull, sent my weight spiraling up as I battled constant pain and was unable to exercise. When I found myself within twenty -five pounds of my original weight in December 2014, I was horrified and determined not to go back.
I did get my weight back down and I kept it down for years.
Enter another health issue - this time my knee. I tore the cartilage in my knee and had surgery on October 31st 2019.
Suddenly I went from walking miles each day, to not being able to walk at all. I didn't adjust my eating habits and my weight skyrocketed within three months. Sigh.
But now I'm on the mend. I am able to walk without too much pain. Very soon, I am planning on re-starting my morinng walks.
I am proud of the fact that I am still in the "One-derful" club, and have not returned to my original heaviest weight of 250lbs.But I long to be back at 150 lbs. Life is so much easier in so many ways when your weight is where it should be. Not only does it feel fantastic, but it is so much easier to do things. Even flying on an airplane as I did recently is easier. Everything feels better.

So I stick to my original suggestions:

WALK. If you can't get to a gym or afford one-- walk! If you can't walk outside, walk inside. I have been amazed at what simply walking has done for me in terms of weight loss and muscle tone. I walk with weights on my legs and arms now but at first I just walked. At least 10,000 steps a day. My goal is 13,000 steps and 45 active minutes per day

If you can possibly afford it, buy a FitBit or any one of the equivalent products and start tracking your steps. Join the challenges with your friends and have fun!

Drink water! And don't drink your calories. It's not worth it.

Be kind to yourself and remember that plateaus will come and they will go! Weigh yourself at least once a week and remember, even one pound a week is fifty-two pounds a year.

Never give up, love life and remember to...

"Forget the past. No one becomes successful in the past." Josh Billings.

"Success doesn't mean the absence of failure; it means the attainment of ultimate objectives. It means winning the war, not every battle." - Edwin C Bliss
