I am back after many years away from Spark. Counting calories and exercise minutes definitely works for me. I'm off to a great start again now that I am in control of my calories and moving my body again.
I need to reflect on why I left Spark. I have a busy work/family schedule that gets in the way, and I find it to be a drag to record everything. I want to change my attitude. I can be a supportive SparkFriend if you want a listening ear.

My Goals:
I'm starting off with small goals - I read advice on Spark about setting realistic goals and starting off with one goal at a time so as not to become discouraged. So, my goals are simple - stick within the recommended calorie limit, being aware to increase fruit/veggie consumption, and exercising on the days that I can. I am finding that there are days that I am all set to fit in exercise but then work or family responsibilities get in the way. I accept that there will be days on which I cannot fit in a workout, but I won't allow that to keep me from exercising the next day and moving forward.

My Program:
For eating, I'm avoiding eating too close to bed time and sticking to the recommended calorie limit.
For exercise, I use an elliptical or treadmill at a gym and also walk in my neighborhood.
Future goals include sticking to the recommended percentages of fat, protein, carbs each day (I'm not there yet), and using the weight machines at the gym.

Personal Information:
I teach biology in NY and find it fulfilling. For hobbies, I mostly read before bed and especially enjoy historical fiction. I enjoy traveling to state and national parks, especially to western US. I enjoy kayaking and hiking.
