Thanks for the comment on my blog. busy is an understatement for what it's about to be around here. Jumping ships on ya though. Going to switch to a more competitive team. need the extra drive this time around. I will try to stay in touch though.

Laura - I’m trying to make connections to some of the starfishes. Sounds like you are in Maine? My oldest brother lives in Maine, up by Augusta. He’s a pretty solitary person, and it suits him just fine.
I prefer circulars over straights! But socks? I tried to like knitting socks, (dpn’s) but it just didn’t grab at me.

Thyroid cancer is what got Hector also at 11 years. Ironically he'd been in for a physical just a few months previously and got a clean bill of health. A month or so after that he ruptured his CCL in his hind leg, which found us in the emergency clinic. I made a followup appointment for a surgical workup when they found the lump. The followup scan showed it was large and there were multiple tumors in his abdomen and by his spine. I decided to keep him on comfort measures and he was doing pretty well getting around with some help from me when a couple weeks after that he suddenly lost support on his other hind leg (probably ruptured that ligament too). By then his neck was visibly swollen, he couldn't do stairs and could barely stand on a flat surface. I finally decided the spark had gone out of his eyes, he looked like he was in constant pain, was on meds, and that it wasn't fair to make him suffer. It killed me to bring him in, but it was the right thing. Although I'm not religious, as I'd mentioned, I do believe in signs. The day I brought him in, he got excited about being in the vet's back yard, bounced around like old times for a bit, then pretty much collapsed on the blanket they'd provided. Then the sun came out and shined on him while he peacefully passed. I still hear him in the house. And yes, another furbaby will come along, but Hector was my first dog who was strictly mine. I hope your baby hangs in there for you. May I make a suggestion? If she gets weak and has trouble standing without help, look online for a company named "Labra". I bought a sling from them which was awesome, and also a brace, which I never used. When I asked to return it (I didn't want my money back) they said no, keep it and donate it, then reimbursed me! They were awesome.

Sorry to be so yakky, when I get going I don't stop!

Thank you so much for your encouraging words on my blog. Congrats on your weight loss and maintaining it! That is quite and accomplishment.
I am so sorry to hear about your Hector. Pets are such a wonderful part of our lives. We've been blessed with 10 years with our Sadie and found out she has thyroid cancer back in March. We were given weeks to 6-8 months with her, but she is still hanging on with minimal signs of weakness. I believe you will find your next furry friend at just the right time.
