I was never heavy while I was young. I was always very slim. Then I went to college and my activity level dropped. I gained the Freshman Fifteen, and then some. I did manage, however, to get that under control.

Then comes marriage, and cooking for my husband. See, that is really the way I won his heart! He loved to eat, I loved to cook. So, after we got married in 1991, I gained a little weight. Not much, but enough that I knew I needed to cut back. Then comes pregnancy #1. I gained 45 pounds, and never did lose it (even though she weighed almost 10 pounds). By the time I had given birth to my second DD, I was topping the scale at 220 pounds. My body seemed to really like the place it was in, because every time I lost weight (and it never was very much), I would go back to my old ways and hit that comfortable weight.

Anyway, after graduating college, I taught school for 10 years. The kids came along. It was tough being a good mom (with all that goes along with that), a good teacher, and a good wife. We were at a place on the farm that my husband really needed a part-time worker, and it was hard to find someone to work seasonally with the hours we put in during harvest, planting, and the prep times that go along with those times. So, when my youngest started school, I stayed home. I cooked for 6 men every other week (sharing those duties with my MIL). It was a meat and potatoes, homemade hot rolls, and dessert kind of meal almost every day. When the kids were home from school (including nieces and nephews home from college), I would cook for 12 people. When we were in the field, it was 18-20 sandwiches a day packed in lunch boxes to send with everyone. Then I would be in a tractor for 10-14 hours.

Anyway, needless to say, as we had added employees and family members grew up to work on the farm, our little daily dinners had become a little too much, both financially and otherwise. My husband decided that everyone would take care of their own meals, and we built a break room in the shop for the employees. All this came about around the time that he was having a routine procedure done in the hospital, and I read an article about Spark People while I was waiting. I wrote down the site, and started immediately.

This site gave me the structure and guidance I needed. I was so motivated by the success stories. People were heavier than me, and hadn't lost hope. The timing was right, because I could fix healthier meals for my husband at lunch, and I could still eat them. I still could make the sweets, but they go to the break room almost immediately! I am so thankful for Chris Downie and all my Spark Friends. Heck, I am thankful for everyone on this site!

I don't know what the future holds, but I will face it slimmer and healthier, thanks to Spark People!

My Goals:
My first focus was for my BMI to be "overweight." Now that I have accomplished that, I want to lose the rest of the weight to look and feel healthier. The first 35 pounds made an amazing difference in my body. I can't wait to see what the next 30 (or so) pound loss does for me!

My Program:
I create my own meals, and try to stay on the low end of my calorie range 90% of the time.

I aim for 90 minutes of total cardio with a treadmill and elliptical 5 days a week, using a HRM to verify the calories I am burning. I am trying to get back to strength training.

Personal Information:
I have lived on a farm in SW Missouri for 20 years. I am originally from SE Oklahoma. I taught HS math for 10 years, but now I stay at home, helping on the farm during the busy times. I have two children living at home, and a stepson attending Oklahoma State University (where my husband and I met.)

Other Information:
I love to read and digital scrapbook.

Congrats on your good day! I hope you achieve another one today. You can, you know what to do and how to do it. And you're smart to take it back down to the daily level. One day at a time is the way to build up a string of good days and then, good numbers on the scale.
Seems like we are not alone...seeing lots of old friends all coming back like us.

Hey girlfriend! You on here or not? I am looking up my old Spark buddies to see who's still around. I came back for help as I have regained 17 pounds of the 26 I had lost. Sad, but true. I know Spark can help! Where are you?
