Getting moving not only changed my life, it saved it. It was February 2006 and I was living with back problems, high blood pressure and felt stressed out all time. At age 34 I was only 5'7" and weighed 260lbs.

My health deteriorating and weighing more than I ever did, I finally decided one day to take action. I prayed to God for help from the bottom of my soul.
I started by walking. At first it was small steps and short distances. I would just make myself get out and walk. I started learning proper nutrition and diet with the help of this website. I made it a lifestyle change rather than a diet.

One day I was walking a trail nearby and ran into a hometown marathon just about to start. I was in awe of everyone's up-beat attitude and had a thought enter my head. "I want to be part of this!"
So, the next day a started to jog, bit by bit I struggled. The weight started to fall off and I just kept thinking about that marathon. Within 10 months and many miles I had shed almost 100lbs. I showed up to the marathon ready to finish and finish I did. I came in 24th in a time of 3 hours 36 mins. I was hooked!

Apparently many were inspired by my story and this year, my second time at that marathon, they presented me with an inspirational award at the pre-race social. Wow! I was so honored!

It's been 4 years now since I started, I am healthier and happier than ever before and my attitude on life is so positive. Participating in things and being active is who I am and what I do now. So far from the person I used to be!
Running has become my passion and I continue to try to motivate and inspire anyone I can through running and fitness because I know first hand how it changed my life for the better.

Thanks Spark People, for providing all the tools I needed to do this, and for letting me tell my story... and thanks to God for being patient and never letting me fall of course too far.
