My name is Michelle and I just graduated with my Bachelor's of Social Work. I was hitting Spark hard, but then my degree and life got in the way. I was working almost full time, going to school full time, doing a required internship, and taking care of my husband. Unfortunately, during this time, my lifestyle suffered. I gained almost 20 pounds that I do NOT need and I am now at the highest weight I have ever been. I am starting the master's program this fall, but I will have a much better schedule than the last four years or so- no more evening classes! Also, I will have access to a super-cheap student membership at the University of Kansas Medical Center fitness center. I need to get into better shape, because this fall I will be making rounds at KUMC and I don't want my duties to suffer due to the weight I carry around with me.

I struggle with motivation and eating right. I get frustrated when I don't immediately see results after working hard. When I don't see them, I give up. I know I do this, but it is so hard to undo years and years of self-defeating attitudes. Plus, my husband is an enabler. He loves me and does not want to deny me anything or make me do something I don't want to do. However, his permissiveness is impacting my health.

I came to Spark People to find support and meet people who know what I am going through. I love my husband dearly, but he has NO clue what it is like to have a weight problem. He is fit and has been athletic for all his life.

I am tired of life passing me by. I am tired of worrying about weight limits on things, wondering if the furniture will collapse, or not being able to do things due to my weight. I want to wear cute clothes and not just what fits.
