I used to wonder why in the world I would work so hard to lose weight, only to become literally exhausted, crave sugar as if it were water, and suddenly gain weight. I never ate more than I did before, and only stopped exercising when I was literally too exhausted to continue.

It turns out that I have a thyroid condition called Hashimoto's. This condition is when the body's antibodies attack the thyroid, causing the thyroid to not be able to make enough thyroid hormone, called thyroxine. Thyroxine is responsible for, among other things, regulating metabolism.

Hashimoto's, or the attack on the thyroid by the antibodies, starts and stops sometimes. It isn't a constant thing. Apparently what was going on was that the Hashimoto's would start up, I'd get sick, and then it would stop, allowing me to lose weight, only to start again and put me back to square one.

Well, now the reign of Hashimoto's is over! I'm on medication for this thyroid condition. Now the weight is coming off rather nicely. I expect to hit goal sometime in March 2012. I'll keep you posted! The weight is coming off at about 1.5 lbs/week.

My husband and I are planning a big trip in September, and I'm really trying to look my best for that. It's good to have goals. Many women look forward to their wedding day and try to look their best for that; I'm trying for this big vacation!

My Goals:
Leader- Vegan Slimdown and Feel Great Workshop!

Leader- Living With Bipolar

My goals are really to become healthier and more centered/grounded. I'm doing this with a very natural diet of mostly produce, exercising, and meditating. I believe in the mind+body approach to weight loss and life.

I eat right, try to exercise often, and get in my meditation.

I'm getting down to 130 lbs and a size 4. I may change the goal weight and lower it to 125, depending on how I look.

My Program:
I do what I can every day, depending on my time constraints. Some days I'm lucky enough to get in a long walk or run of about 5 miles. Other days, I can sneak in the 30-Day Shred video, which is 20 mins.

I like to lift at the rec center. I do this about 3 times per week. I run or walk usually 5 times a week.

In terms of diet, I'm vegan, and have been for 13 years. I eat according to the Eat To Live program, a diet consisting of almost totally produce with limited amounts of starch and of course protein sources. It's really working for me so far. Stay tuned!

I also meditate. I try to focus on centering and grounding myself. This practice is affirming and helps me to stay positive.

It was one of my goals that when I lost my first 10 lbs that I would buy $50 worth of yoga stuff and learn yoga. Well, I spent only $10 on yoga stuff, and that was on a mat. I didn't have to spend the rest. I got DVDs out of the library and have been learning yoga. I appreci

My name is Melinda and I live in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio.

I have a great husband and we are pretty much owned by our cat, Anubis.

I'm a goth girl at heart, even though I'm now married and out of the scene. I can't fit into those cool clothes anymore- time to lose some weight!

I'm into animal rights, veganism, goth music, writing, hanging out with my husband, and surfing the Internet. I'm a very spiritual person and follow the Wiccan path.

I currently am employed part time at a jewelry store and I collect disability. I am not getting enough hours though, and am looking for a "real" professional position. I've been interviewing. Hopefully the right job will pop up soon!

Other Information:
I think I've pretty much given all the interesting info I can think of to tell.

I went to college and got my BA from a good school in the midwest. As I mentioned already I work at a jewelry store. I'm looking for a professional job. My bipolar has been under control for the most part, however I do still cycle and have flare-ups.
