Yeah I grew up fat, but I started out cute and in high school I was thin (lost 110 pounds in a year!!) and pleasantly surprised to find out that I was a little bit of a hottie.

Then bad things happened (like getting hit by a truck and put on bed rest for a year, nursing a crooked spine) and I gained all that weight back and more.

I wanna be a little hottie again, before I'm old!!

I just read about the 10% goal concept. (See my favorite articles for more info)

OH MY GOODNESS!! I have never thought of it that way. How freeing!

So- I am going to set my goals by that measure.

Weight Loss:

I weigh about 275. Rather than seeing it as I-need-to-lose-135-pounds, I will set up a series of steps, 10% of my body weight down, which I can celebrate as I reach them.

So step 1 is to lose 10% of 275. 27.5 pounds. That is very do-able. And I can further break that down to 2.75 pounds. So every 2.75 pounds that I lose I get to CELEBRATE!! Once I've lost that 27.5 pounds, I regroup and set the next 10% goal.

Now here is a REAL case for ten-per-cent-ing. I have a long-term goal of running marathon. It is a pipe dream I have always had, but never really knew how to take a first step beyond the vague, nebulous notions of I-need-to-lose-weight-and-get-in-shape. Now I can map it out!

Goal: Run 26 miles
Run 2.6 miles
Run .26 miles (we will say one quarter mile) which is 1320'
Run 132' - my starting point

After I get my body tight enough that I'm not swinging huge pendular pockets of flesh and fat around painfully with every step, I will take a little time each day to work on running 132 feet and once I can do that amount without knocking myself out, I will add ten percent - and so on.

For those folks that like seeing my pix from the beginning and might be bummed that I've had to start rolling the older pix off the gallery, you can go here to see them all:

My Goals:
Want to get back to 130 to 150 in shortest time possible w/o hospitalizing myself.

Start weight is set at 275. This is an estimate. Could be slightly less or more, since I didn't have a scale at the start.

Hadn't gained any sizes since I last had access to one, though, and was 274 then, so I think that a good estimate. My all-time (known) high was 285 (1 year before Spark)
RE nasty arm roll: I have a fold-over on my left arm & I HATE IT so very much. I mean, I'm ok (at times) with being overweight but that, RIGHT THERE, makes me feel like I'm not human anymore- that I'm now some sort of THING.
Current 10% weight goal: lose 27.5# - GW 247.5#
Lost this stage: 11.5#
Total 10% goals achieved:
10% mini-goal: lose 2.75#
MG met this stage: 4

My Program:
Cutting down intake, adding in more exercise, drinking more water. What else is there??

I figured out what else there is...
- consistency
- positive attitude
- faith
- patience

Other Information:
Another member posted this in her blog, I want to make sure it's repeated:

Hello, do you know me?
If you don't, you should.
I'm a pound of fat.
And I'm the HAPPIEST pound of fat that you would ever want to meet.
Want to know why?
It's because no one ever wants to lose me; I'm ONLY ONE POUND, just a pound!
Everyone wants to lose 3 pounds, 5 pounds, or 15 pounds, but never only 1.
So I just stick around and happily keep you fat.
Then I add to myself, every so slyly, so that you never seem to notice it.
That is, until I've grown to 10, 20, 30 or even more pounds in weight.
Yes, it is FUN being ONLY ONE POUND OF FAT, left to do as I please.
So, when you weigh in, keep right on saying, "Oh, I only lost one pound." (As if that were such a terrible thing.)
For you see, if you do this, you encourage others to keep me around because they will think I'm just not worth the effort.
