Update (1/12/14): Almost there! I have lost over 80 pounds and am only a handful of pounds away from being exactly the weight I want to be. I found, adapted, and have come to love my "healthy food and exercise lifestyle that is enjoyable, doable, and sustainable," which is what I originally set out to do almost 4 years ago. I love it not only because it has allowed me to lose weight and keep it off (2013 was mostly maintenance), but I feel so much better physically and mentally. For example, I used to think I suffered from social anxiety and was constantly agitated. Turns out I was just eating too many easily digestible carbs! (Sugar addict, anyone?) Once that was sorted, it's been down hill ever since. Life is good.

Update (12/1/10): I am now knowledgeable about calories, portion control, healthful food choices, and exercise, yet I still struggle. Real changes have occurred...I've noticed just how much my choices have changed for the better. In the process, I have confirmed that my excess weight is just a symptom. True, it is a direct result of my unhealthy choices. However, I now understand that my choices are often driven by what's going on in my head depending on whether I'm feeling confident and worthy or worthless and depressed.

My journey is moving to the next level. I will continue to work on the choices I make regarding food and exercise. But I also will journey towards mental peace. It's time for me to REALLY learn to love myself. The rest will follow.

Original Intro (March 2010): I've gained and lost and gained too many pounds to count. I don't want to lose weight if it means I'll just gain it back again and then some. Unfortunately, diets seem to be temporary fixes; once I stop dieting I start gaining. Thankfully, I had a personal break through in February. Don't diet! Instead, focus on healthful living. A healthy weight will be a natural result, because when the cause is gone, the symptoms will go away, too.

So, I'm starting down a new path. This time I'm focusing on finding a healthy food and exercise lifestyle that is enjoyable, doable, and sustainable. This time, I'm going to do it right. I'm really looking forward to this personal journey.
