Running a half-marathon was a huge goal for me. I trained for six months and ran it in 2:10!

Hi all! I'm currently participating in the Spark Into Spring Biggest Loser Challenge as a member of the Orange Tiger team. Go Tigers!

About Me:
I'm 29 years old, and have been wavering in my commitment to fitness and healthy eating. I would like to use this page to recommit in a permanent and public way so I will work harder toward my goals. I WILL be under 130 pounds by my thirtieth birthday, July 4, 2010.

I'm no longer ashamed to acknowledge that depression has been a part of my life for years. With the help of medication and cognitive behavioural therapy, however, I now consider myself depression-free and it's like being granted a new beginning. Part of that beginning has been setting and accomplishing new goals now that I feel like I actually CAN. In the spring, after six months of training, I ran a half-marathon, which was enormous in proving to me that I can do whatever I set my mind to. So, now I'm going to get rid of the extra pounds I've been carrying since I was a teenager. I'm glad to have SparkPeople to help me through this journey.

Thanks for visiting my page!

My Goals:
Long-term goal:
Lose 29 lbs. by my thirtieth birthday, July 4th, 2010

Short-term goals:
- Lose 15 pounds
- Compete in the Spark Into Spring Biggest Loser Challenge

Achieved goals:
- Lose five pounds (completed January 2010)
- Complete the Spark Your Body Boot Camp program (completed January 2010)
- Lose ten pounds (completed April 2010)

My Program:
(1) Do a minimum of 30 minutes of cardio, 5 days a week.
(2) Commit to regular strength training: BodyPump classes 2-3 times a week, plus extra weight sessions.
(3) Try a new exercise option every two weeks: either a new class or machine at the gym or a new workout DVD from the library or video store.
(4) Race with my husband to see who can make it to the gym more times in a month.
(5) Make my dog walks more of a workout (for me AND my dog) by adding in hills and speed intervals.

(1) Practice careful portion control.
(2) Eat 4-6 small meals spaced out throughout the day instead of delaying meals until I'm starving.
(3) Eat breakfast within an hour of waking up every morning.
(4) Drink 8 cups of water every day.
(5) Try a new, healthy (and hopefully low-budget) recipe every week.
(6) Be sure to have healthy snacks on hand and cook in larger quantities so that I can freeze extra portions.
(7) Eat off smaller plates.
