My name is SUNSHINE_GAL and I’m 63 years old. I have 4 grandchildren; 3 who live in California and one who lives with me due to my daughter passing away. My hobbies are reading, sewing, crocheting and crafts. I also enjoy fishing and camping. I’m a music lover and have a large collection of various artists. We currently own two dogs, Sadie and Precious. We recently moved from California to northern Arizona.

When I first joined Sparkpeople, I was thrilled to see the weight reduction. However, I had some health problems enter the picture, which really interfered with my program. I have heart problems and my fear of exercise didn’t help me. I also have a bad hip and knee problem. As a result, my progress slowed way down. I managed to maintain my weight loss within a 5 pound variance. However, I gave in too quickly and lost my motivation. When you lose a child, your life changes drastically. You become empty inside. The stress, depression and worry consume your days. The joys of laughter are few and far between. I needed to pick up the pace. I needed to care about me and get healthy. My daughter would want this and I want it too. Therefore, I started again on June 27th, 2011 with new goals and determination. As a result, I've lost another 19 pounds. I thank all my very dear friends here at Sparkpeople for their compassion and ongoing support.

My weight tracker has been updated to reflect my total loss.


1.) 76.3 years old is my body’s age based on the Real Age web site due to health issues and being overweight. That’s 13.3 years older than I am. It’s time to turn the clock back.
2.) My granddaughter’s support during my journey to a better life. She really supports me and always gives me a big hug when I tell her I've lost another pound. She is so proud of me and tells me so every day.
3.) I want to be healthy!

I enjoy reading. My favorite authors are Sandra Brown, Sidney Sheldon and Nicholas Sparks. I also enjoy biographies, true stories and daily devotionals. CSI and NCIS are my favorite shows.

Other Information:
Roses are my favorite flower.
Hawaii is my favorite state.
I'm glad to be retired.
I enjoy traveling.
I love walks along the beach and sunsets.
