Hi Everyone, I'm Sylvia. I'm so glad I found this site.. it's so inspiring and motivating to read everyone's stories. Once I read a few, I just had to join. I've been struggling with my weight really since I went to University. But really, I was never happy with my body... I've been going though my photographs from highschool so that I could get a visiual what my body looks like slim, and I remember, back then in highschool, never feeling that I was happy with my body and thought that I needed to lose weight, and now looking back at those photos, I would kill to have that body back again. I've tried diets here and there, started exercising and stopping on and off. Would lose a little weight and gain it back again.

Not this time.

THIS TIME I will not give up, because giving up GUARANTEES that I will fail.
2009 is my year of change. Not just wishful thinking but change that is continually tracked to keep me accountable.

At the beginning of this year, at the start of my journey on January I was 213.4 lbs. On joining this site on March 7th 2009, I am 205.0 lbs. Lost 16" so far :) I'm doing this with Turbo Jam, but will be getting ChaLEAN Extreme shortly.

I've put together a Journal for myself, filled with magazine (usually workout magazine) cutouts of what I want my body to look like, the type of activities I want to do, the type of clothes I want to be able to wear. Also the places that I want to visit and be proud to wear a BIKINI.
I call my Journal:
"Journey to FIT: My Body Makeover"
I keep thoughts in it about my exercise and nutrition progress, how I feel as this can show a pattern of destructive behavior towards my success, and of course I keep track of statistical progress. I made myself a yearly and monthly chart to show the weightloss.

I also recently read this book called "Why are You Weighting?" By Toronto-based author Stacey Grieve. She talks about how it's not the food that's making us fat, but it's our thoughts and beliefs about food, exercise and most imortantly ourselves, that have us programmed to gain the weight back. She discusses how many of us have paridigms of being an overweight person and until we can shift these paridigms to those that are posessed by a "thin" person, we will eventually gain the weight back because our paridigm does not match that of our new bodies. I'm not doing a great job explaining it, but there is some amazing information in that book. It also talks about affirmations and tells you to come up with some affirmations to help you with self esteem and help to shift your paridigms (beliefs). She tells you to phrase them in such a way as if it were already true. Here is my main affirmation:

"I AM SO HAPPY AND GREATFUL NOW THAT I AM SLIM, FIT, HEALTHY AND ENERGETIC. I CAN RUN, DANCE, HIKE, SWIM, DO ANY ACTIVITY WITH EASE AND GRACE. I WEAR MY BIKINI WITH PRIDE AND ANYTHING I PUT ON LOOKS GREAT ON ME. MY OUTLOOK ON LIFE IS COMPLETELY POSITIVE. I FEEL AMAZING!!!"

She advises you to close your eyes when you are telling this affirmation to youself, and as you do so, imagine this.. see yourself in your new body doing whatever activity makes you happy. Do this daily, preferrably in the morning when you wake up and at night before you go to sleep.

She also tells you to make affirmations for your beliefs about food, exercose, thin people (as sometimes we may have negative thoughts towards those that are slim), your positive features, and your talents.
eg.
Food: " I am so happy and greatful now that I am eating smaller portions; that I am making healhy food choices; and that I am eating like a slim person by eating what my body needs and no more."

It's an amazing book that helps you to confront some of your own deamons.

Inches down from last month 2" and 1.2 lbs down .. was hoping for better results but just have to keep on going. As I wrote in my journal, I will not fail unless I quit. Quitting guarantees failure. As long as I keep going, I will get the results I am looking for eventually.

March 10th update: Yesterday I did my end of month 2 weigh in and was disappointed to only see a drop of 1.2 lbs from the month before. However, this morning I went down another 1.4 lbs! So I think that I just didn't have enough water on the weekend and I was retaining. So now I am down 2.6 since last month and a total of 9.8 lbs in 2 months ... WOO HOO

March 15 2009.
Not having the greatest diet weekend (just had 2 pancakes for dinner :P ) but I just wanted to share some progress. Not really something measurable, but I noticed a big difference when I touch my body, my legs feel tighter and smaller, my shoulders feel hard, and strangely, some of my extra fatty areas feel looser .. I think maybe the fat is coming off those areas and it's not as packed anymore? Not sure. But it's exciting to feel the changes in my body even when the scale or the measuring tape don't show much change.

My Goals:
I want to eventually get down to 130 lbs, although I am not putting this down as my final goal as I have a pretty muscular build and my main goal is to be slim, fit and toned so the true goal may end up being more or less than 130 lbs.

No kids yet.. but maybe in a couple of years.
