Tuesday, December 08, 2009

It was 8 days late in coming, but I have hit my halfway goal! Woo Hoo! Of course I woke everyone up at home and just had to tell them all!
Now that I am here, I do not want to go back. I really do not want to go back into the 200's. This is now a huge motivator for me. I can not explain it. This milestone was a turning point for me. Kinda like when I hit 240 (ok 242), I just did not want to get bigger. So I changed.

I have been wondering if I could break 200. I really was. It seems like everytime I dieted before, I could not get below that number. I would get frustrated and give up. I wondered if I COULD. If it was possible for ME. And now that I have, I can honestly say, I feel different. I feel successful. I feel hopeful. I FEEL GREAT!

There is no way I think I could have done this without what I have learned here at Spark People. I never, ever used to count calories and track food. EVER. Thought it was silly and pointless.... and disheartening when I realized how much I had eaten for the day. A bite here, a bite there. And the days I didn't eat at all, I never realized how much they sabotaged me.
I have learned to count calories in and count calories burned. I have learned how to eat healthier, watched so many demonstration videos so I would not look like an idiot at the gym trying something new, and I have met so many great, supportative buddies. Like my gym Spark buddy. It was her friendship that got me to my first spin class, my first ab lab class, and so many more firsts for me. And I met her here on Spark. Living in the same town, going to the same gym.
I was so determined to lose the weight this time. But I had so much going against me. My weight hurt my knees and made me so very uncomfortable and unable to do some things. I am working on my mirror aversion. I still do not like to work out infront of one, but I won't avoid them in stores or in malls anymore.
In 3 months:
Lost 42 pounds, 5 inches in my waist, went from 15 mins on a treadmill and 2 on elliptical to 45 min spin classes and 30 mins on elliptical. 10 pounds of what I lost was fluid. The rest is Fat. Fat that is gone, gone, G O N E!!!
I am just so happy. And I am now believing that I will beat obesity this time. I am two little percentage points away from not being obese anymore.
But the biggest thing I have learned, the biggest difference in the now me and the then me, she got off her couch and didn't stop moving!

The first time I filled out my introduction area, I talked about how I am a mother and a wife and what we do. I said very little about me. That had become me. Standing here pointing at others. It was like I had no value unless I was attached to something else.
So this is my introduction take 2.
I am a strong woman who is taking back control of her life. I have lost 36 pounds with 20 of it coming from help from my Spark People family.
I am rediscovering what I like and what I dislike. I actually like exercising now. I love my spin class and I am working towards taking a class every night of the week it is offered.
I am discovering that food is fuel and not reward. I do enjoy something sweet every now and then, but it is not daily anymore. I don't think of food when it comes to rewards anymore.
I want to be fit and healthy. If that means I will never be as small as the person next to me, so be it. When I coach my daughter's softball team, I want to be running, sliding, bending over, swinging and smiling right there with them instead of watching and cheering them on from the sidelines.
My goal for taking off the weight is 2 pounds a week. I am counting what I eat and counting what I burn. After trying it all, I have learned that this is the only way to do it.
