Some quick before & after action. (It actually took less than 5 years to reach that goal.)

___________________________________

I was born at a very young age, or so I'm told, and grew up as an overweight, sedentary kid, extending into adulthood. By the time I graduated from high school, I was lumbering around the 285-pound mark. There was always this notion in the back of my mind that if I didn't do anything to change by the time I turned 30, that would be it; THAT would be my starting point. Then something interesting happened just before my 30th birthday. My family doctor told me this:

"Overall, you're healthy, except for your weight. I'm also the city coroner, in addition to being your doctor. I'd rather not see you for the former."

BAM! That did it. Motivation slapped in the face and thrust me into 'healthy living' mode.

Several things have changed for me over the past several years. I initially lost about 70 lbs a few years back and was eating and living well overall. I was running regularly and seeing improvements in my running regimen. But then I had to stop running due to some Achilles' issues. At the same time, my work schedule changed from steady day shifts to a two-week rotation of days and night shifts. Lifestyle changed, exercise regimen changed, eating habits changed... none for the better.

Now I have to reassess and set some new goals. Goal #1 is now and always has been weight loss. My goal weight is 190 lbs. Back in the old days, I was up to around 285 lbs and miserable. It took me a long time to shake that. At my lowest, I was down to 208. I've steadily put on weight since then. Cause and effect has never been so clear a lesson to me in all my life. I'm getting back to healthier eating, a steady exercise routine, and a motivated lifestyle.

Shift work provides a major challenge to find balance, time and energy. I have some obstacles to overcome there. With luck, I'll also be able to coerce my wife of 14 years, my 13-year-old daughter, and my 10-year-old son into joining me, if only bit by bit as I've done over the past few years.

Besides, I have half a wardrobe of clothes that I fit into over a year ago that misses me. :)

Troy! Hello! emoticon Finally I get to the applesauce dude :) lol, thats how I first read it :) Nice this cheerleader is missed by someone. JK. I've missed being on here too. Love the way you word you worded me & healthy life style like a hug! perfectly said. Never letting go! You take that to heart too!!! But hmm...happy healthy adventures...honestly, its been trying with dealing with incredible(not the wonderful type)crazy head pain, to still take good care of myself, and keep the chin up when I can't do the same intense cardio or really alot of exercise in general & have my life "shut down" in so many ways. Its been more being faithful in what I CAN do... readjusting my vision. That was tough to get to and still have my moments. But been good for me. Life throws those curveballs ALL through life, and to be persistent and "creative" I guess in times when life puts you in this teeny box can either be 2 things: depressive...or lead to some awesome problem solving/creative thinking! emoticon My restrictions of that that teeny box have been: central sensitization, lets just say overly sensitive head pain reactions--to put in lay mans language been mcuh worse than daily migraines & headache pain! So, lol, not sure what kind of adventure you'd call that..."The Locked in a Teeny Box for an Unknown amount of Time" Adventure?...did I say no one could find a key! ah...so yes, def been a ride. I think mid or late December somewhere around there, my attitude took a turn for the better--as I mentioned at the beginning. Instead of fighting against the box I was in, to utilize the time in the box & see what I could do in my "quiet/alone" time. (when I finally was able to see a neurologist, he told me in order for the pain to neutralize to normal level I had to cut out anything that triggered pain...I was like okay, send me to heaven now then, because that's most of life--work, church, social etc! :P SO really had to be isolated (hence the "box") and cut out a lot of things, hence easy to get depressed! Its been really cool to discover a change in my inner attitude, and find my heart joy in God. something I was lacking before...and was asking God for. Didn't really want to get it this way! but sure deepened my faith & relationship that was shaky before. So a lot of good things! Yes, great song you said, I only heard of it in past months...can see how it'd be awesome to play, esp since it has a good beat! Was listening to it after you mentioned it, and heard another of theirs "Every Giant will Fall". Had to get my guitar for that one, because just could really relate and gives me the (good shivers)! Love that NOTHING we face, is too big. In *every* area of our life. Pretty awesome eh? Shoot...I think this is getting long! But I keep checking back on your msg to see I've responded to it all! :) Oh yes! your awesome workout!!! I'll admit, I'm slightly jealous, I want that too! Sounds so fun! I'm very happy for you, thats AWESOME you found something that's pumped you up again. We all need that "spin" in our routine from time to time..pardon the pun :P thats great how it works with your work schedule too! Keep it up...and stretching your thinking...like I had to do :) Getting creative in ANY thing you face in life. Its not just our physical bodies that we need to take care of ...its ALL of us..holistically. Because really that impacts the physical more than we realize...Anyways, I shall stop! This LONG note can make up for the months I've been gone! emoticon OH! I just thought of something that has been kinda my highlight in the past months, that I have been able to do...but I think I wrote a blog about it...or maybe that was in my head that I wrote it! emoticon lol. I'll leave it be for now! Hope you had an awesome weekend with the family, wonderful Valentines with your valentine :) & have a fabulously healthy week in *every* way. Celebrate each healthy choice...your body will thank ya!!! :) emoticon
