Hi ! Thank you for stopping by my page. I'm currently in "maintenance" mode after losing 20 - 35 pounds for (count it...) the BAZILLIONTH time. For the first time in my life I've managed to keep it off for more than 6* months (and I'm 49), thanks to my BodyBugg and Spark.
*update Oct/11 = 26 months

I've never struggled with exercise (I've done that since before Jane Fonda came out with leg warmers). Obesity runs in my family and I knew what could happen to me if I didn't exercise. I just didn't have the sense to know that once the weight came off--- getting lazy, and those weekend/vacation food binges would put the weight right back on again. I guess I didn't really care because I had a "limit" and I knew what to do to take the excess back off again.

Oohhh, but after turning 40 it didn't want to come off so easily. I struggled to find something that would jump-start my metabolism. I discovered kick-boxing at 40 and have never looked back. It was an addiction. But the weight would still creep back up after awhile.

Then within the last 3 years, we buried 4 family members on my husband's side - ALL due to preventable health problems - his mother, his aunt, one brother, and one sister. His father had already passed away many years ago to health reasons, at 50.

NOW it's not about vanity anymore. It's time to take a hard look at living a healthy lifestyle.

In June 2009 I purchased a BodyBugg and realized that - even though I never liked fast-food, chips, sodas, etc. - I did love cake, ice cream, and pasta!! (And loved it all WAY TOO much on the weekends.) My husband was intrigued by the little gadget and decided to get one, as well. We were astonished, (I mean, REALLY ASTONISHED!), at discovering how many calories we were consuming on the weekends (and we don't even drink). We were completely undoing all of our mid-week efforts.

So after faithfully working our BodyBugg programs and (me) being diligent with my workouts (which is easy because they're so much fun), the weight fell off. 20 pounds each in about 10 weeks. Ok, so now I've discovered the key for me - calories in/ calories out/how much am I REALLY burning off.

Is that enough?

I've been here (a bazillion times) before so what OTHER tools can I find to help me actually maintain? (I need all I can get!) That's where Spark came in. YAY! Now I've learned the importance of FUELING my body with the right foods. I've discovered fruits and vegetables, (which I never ate because my mother never required it). I tried a new fruit today, even. A PLUOT! Never heard of it before this week and it's YUM!!

But best of all, I've found wonderful SparkFriends that help keep me motivated and I'm learning so much from their OWN personal experiences and discoveries!! WooHoo!

I want to do my part to be healthy, I want to grow old with my best friend, and I want to see my future grand-children grow up. If I have to take care of my parents I want to be strong so I can manage it.

This was supposed to be short...not sure what happened. Maybe one day I'll even be brave enough to blog. Until then...

Fitness Minutes: 165,321

My Goals:
To maintain my 35 pound weight loss for the last time, or I should say maintain for the first time - hah!

To maintain (at least) current weight through August 2010---that will mark "successful maintenance" of one full year---THEN I will have my clothes altered. (oh yeah. I have six (6!) different sizes hanging in my closet.)

July 2011 Update: Maintained goal weight thru 2010, and even survived a two week vacation in May 2011 successfully. In the past, I couldn't even manage a get-away weekend without gaining bona-fide pounds (not water-weight), lol. I 've since donated my largest 2 clothing sizes---not yet brave enough to donate the next 2 sizes. Maybe in August 2013.

Leading by example: To be able to successfully help my friends and family adapt to a healthy-living lifestyle. I've already had a positive influence on my husband so that's a start! : )

Primary cardio:

Turbo Jam, Turbo Kick, Turbo Fire

High intensity cycling on Saturdays

Strength Training:

ChaLEAN Extreme - Mon, Wed, Fri - currently in my 8th consecutive rotation.

I've been married 28 years to the greatest man in the world and have one adult son.

I work part-time as a high school Librarian. I'm also a certified Turbo Kick Instructor and hope doors will open for me to teach in my church in the near future.

I grew up in Orange County, CA but have been living in L.A. for most of my adult life.

Other Information:
We're a Christian family.

My husband and I are big fans of motorsports. We follow most all auto-racing series but our BIGGEST passion is for the IZOD IndyCar series.

We love dogs and like to help support rescue and no-kill shelters.

    Hey Tami! I hope you are doing exceeding well these days.

    God has really blessed me, as I am able to maintain my weight with moderate to little effort. I exercise three times a week (pretty much the same routines) and eat mindfully while tracking absolutely everything and staying within my range and I'm good to go. For the most part, I've only fluctuated roughly 3 pounds up/down since I've been in maintenance (over 2 years).

    I recently engaged in a SP conversation where most of the women (around the same age as me) expressed how very difficult it is for them to maintain. I am happy to report that it isn't all that difficult for me. Praise the Lord! I say all that to say... disciplined I am, in some areas, but, clearly (per my post), not in all areas. I'm getting better though. It's so nice to drive to my destinations without speeding and nearly running people of the road due to my lack of time management. I know, it may sound silly, but, I'm sure you get it.

    How is maintenance going for you?
