Warm Glow

Wednesday, April 23, 2008

I had joined a gym a few days before I found SP, which was just over one month ago. On most weeks, I have been getting to the gym 4 days a week (Mon-Thurs.) Up to this point I have only been using the treadmill. I figured that walking was all I was coordinated enough to do. I saw the ellipticals, but was so intimidated by them - I was afraid I'd fall off & get tangled up in them! Well, today I decided it was time for me to give them a shot. What a difference! I was up to 4 miles in an hour on the treadmill - not jogging but a very fast walk - which left me with a warm glow. The elliptical today, though UGH! After 15 minutes, I was thinking how can I keep this up? I did end up making it 45 minutes - and with out falling or getting tangled up or anything! (But I did have to stop when I wanted to take a drink from my water bottle - I was afraid if I let my hands go while my legs were still moving, I'd completely lose it!)

Oh, and "warm glow" doesn't exactly describe my the elliptical workout. Maybe stinky, drippy, & beet red would be more accurate.

I'm definitely impressed with the 45 minutes! I can go 30 easily now (of course dripping and stinky sweaty mess are good descriptions for me at that point) but I still feel like I'm on the elliptical when I get off and start trying to walk on the ground. I just know I look like I'm marching or something. LOL. I have increased to varying intervals of resistance now, though, so I guess that's some progress. :) Maybe I will do 30 mins on the elliptical and 30 on the treadmill walking for a while. I can't believe I used to be able to do the elliptical the entire way through a 1 1/2 to 2 hour movie! CRAZY! :) Congrats on your weight loss so far, too. :)

good job trying something new and sticking with it for 45 minutes! the more options you have the less boring working out will be. when you get bored of one thing you can move to another.
