Portland Marathon (just rambling)

Monday, September 22, 2008

When I started this whole marathon thing, dh helped with the kids on Saturdays, listened to my "guess how far I ran today" remarks and was in general supportive... but he wasn't going to be at the actual marathon. (It's on Sunday... oh how I wish there were more races on Saturday!)
In fact, when I ran my first Half (on a Sunday), I went solo.
But now that this whole thing is getting so close, he has decided to go! It'll be so cool to have him and the kids there when I finish and I LOVE any time we have together as a family.

I was getting kind of nervous, because I really don't even have the nutrition/hydration thing down for my long runs, and there's just so much that I don't know... So I've been going to the website and reading and I'm learning a lot. I think this will be such a great race to be involved in. There are so many volunteers! They have a running team that sets paces so you can 'follow' along with them and know you're at your goal pace. Maybe this is pretty standard? I have no idea, but let me assure you, it made me feel a lot better about the whole thing! I do have a goal pace... but I'm really trying to be realistic too. I should be happy with something around 4:30. But part of me really wants 4:20 or around there.

I know the time's going to fly by... I'm running a 10K on Saturday with my mom, and then the marathon is the next week!
