Marathons are like childbirth!

So, I ran the Portland Marathon yesterday. As I was waddling around after the race, the only thing I could compare the experience to is childbirth. I could get really detailed here.... but seriously... there are a lot of similarities... like at mile 24 when I'm so close to being done but in pain... time slowed down and thoughts like "this is why so many people only run one marathon" start to come in. Then at the end, I accomplished a goal, I got a little prize, and my endorphins kicked in making me forget about the last 21-26.2 miles... just like childbirth! Of course holding your newborn does not really compare to getting a race t shirt, and another difference, as the doctor who delivered my first baby said, is that "You don't get a medal for delivering a baby without pain medication." I DID get one for finishing a marathon!
