Good or Bad Advice?

Monday, February 02, 2009

The November 2008 issue of Redbook had an article titled
"5 Health Habits it's OK to Skip"

1. Eating breakfast everyday.
2. Doing a monthly breast self-exam.
3. Popping a daily multivitamin.
4. Staying indoors when it's cold outside.
5. Never eating after 7:00 pm.

The article admits that breakfast eaters are less likely to be obese and are generally healthier than those who don't eat breakfast, so I'm not sure why they're saying skip it...

If I skip breakfast, it aggravates my acid reflux, and I end up with a headache too.

I don't think going out in the cold is bad, as long as you use common sense and dress for it, and pay attention to the wind chill.

As for eating after 7pm; I'm not a morning person, so that means most of my meals are later in the day than the average person. A lot of times, I don't have dinner until 7pm, and I allow myself an evening snack; that seems to help me head off an acid reflux attack in the middle of the night.

Every body is different so one person may not need to eat breakfast as soon as they wake up.
I say it's definitely okay to skip vitamins as they're basically useless. It's better to eat an orange for instance than it is to take a vitamin.
Going outside when it's cold can be invigorating.
And again eating after 7pm depends on the person and most importantly what is being eaten.
As for the breast exams. To me that depends on the persons diet and maybe the family history.
