Rain, Rain Go Away . . . .

Well, it has been a while since I updated my blog. In the last few weeks my brother, his wife, and two little girls came to visit for two weeks from Victoria, BC. As much as I love them, they shot my routine all to hell, so I'm starting over today.

While they were here I managed to eat way too much, as I was unable to track my meals as I went, plan my meals in advance, or get in enough exercise. I hope running after two toddlers will counteract that. The reasons I had difficulty tracking and planning all of my meals is because we kept being invited to various barbecues and to visit other family members. I just tried to make the best of every meal offered by only selecting the healthier options, taking smaller portions, and not eating everything that was offered. I'm sure I went over my calorie range most days, but I hope I wasn't too terrible.

On an upside, during the time that they were here my sister-in-law gave me motivation to try to start running again. I have decided to try to walk for five minutes and then run for one minute until I complete about a 4 km loop near my house. I'll try to do that for three or four weeks before upping my running time to two minutes and walking for five. My plan is to up my running time by one minute every three or four weeks, depending on how it feels.

So far I am entering my third week and thinks seem to be going well. Running for one complete minute no longer feels like a challenge except when I am running up a hill. I've started pushing my boundaries to 1.5 minutes, but pull back to a walk when I reach that interval. I don't want to push too hard too soon. I'm scared of burning myself out or injuring myself. So far so good, I haven't had an knee or hip pain. Just a little bit of discomfort in my hips while running up hill and that seems to work itself out after a few seconds when I start walking again.

So, now to the title of my blog. I am currently sitting in my fitness gear in my living room waiting for the rain to stop, or at the very least, slow down. The forecast called for cloudy with showers with 1 - 3 mm of rain this afternoon. So far, not an issue. Except that when I look out the window, it is pouring. I can hear the rain over the stereo and through the patio doors. Normally, a little rain wouldn't stop me. I would just dress for the weather and that had been my plan for today. I'm feeling the rush to get outside and move, but that amount of rain could be unsafe on the trails. Here's hoping that it will slow down soon and I can feel that rush again!!!

    Good luck with your running. Be sure to listen to your body. You do not want to be sidelined with an injury.

    Yeah for you for running. I know when I started it really helped with my weight loss. I know it doesn't do it for everyone... but go you!
    I think part of our journey here is recognizing where we fall short and not letting the things we do short circuit us and make us quit. It sounds like you have a good handle on things.
