I'M ANNOYED WITH PAYLESS SHOES!!!!

Thursday, November 12, 2009

This probably isn't the best forum for this but since I don't blog anywhere else, here it goes....

It probably will reduce my stress level to vent so it is essentially health-related.

I'm a teacher. As you are probably aware, teachers don't make much money. I cut corners often. Payless helped with that, especially for someone like me who gets bored with shoes quickly and also has wide feet. It's hard to find affordable shoes that fit and don't bore me.

Months ago, I was sent a 40% coupon in the mail from Payless that could be used on their website and in the store. Well, I prefer the online store because of the better selection and convenience. So I went to their website and filled my online shopping bag.

When I went to checkout, the site wouldn't take my password. This is the same password that I have been using with them for over ten years. I kept trying and trying and finally, I requested an email to be sent to me so that I could reset my password. No email came. I went online to request it to be sent again. Nothing. After four attempts and still no email, I called their 1-800 number. The woman on the other end of the line was nice but very nonchalant. I was concerned that someone had gotten ahold of my account info and changed my password. She said that didn't happen. She told me that they had changed their website and I had to reregister.

OK! So I tried to re-register. GUESS WHAT? It wouldn't let me re-register because it said that my email address was already registered!

I emailed the customer service desk and briefly explained my situation. I got this email in response:

Thank you for contacting Payless ShoeSource.
I am sorry to hear you are having problems ordering from us. If you would like assistance in placing an order, please call our Customer Service number: (877) 474-6379 or for APO/FPO: 1(785) 233-5171. There are representatives available from 7:30 AM to 8:00 PM Monday - Saturday, 9:30 AM to 8:00 PM Sundays, Central Time.
Thank you for shopping with Payless.com.

A month later, I went through the whole process again. Sent an email. Got the same response.

Today, I got an email ad from them. I tried to enter my info on their site again, to no avail. So I unsubscribed from their emails and sent this email to them as well:

"I can't shop online with you any longer because your site won't accept my password. I've sent numerous emails to have it sent to me to try to reset it. I've also tried re-registering and the site won't allow me to do so.

I am an online shopper. I don't go to stores and I don't do well on the phone. I have spent tons of money with your company over the years via your website and now I'm unable to. It's frustrating because your shoes work so well for my family.

If you ever get your website issues resolved, I'd appreciate knowing. For now, I'm unsubscribing from your emails."

Guess what I got in response?

Thank you for contacting Payless ShoeSource.

Thanks for your votes of support and tips. I appreciate it!

Shoes.com sent me a coupon code for 15% off the entire purchase through 11/23. (If you'd like to use it it's TAKE15) They also have free shipping (both ways.) So...there's an additional option.

If you really want to get a response that is not an auto e-mail, find out who the president of the company and write him\her and you will find that they will respond allot better than what you are getting now. Make sure that you put all that you said here in that e-mail or letter to them. They know who pays their salary.

You are much more patient than I am. I would have given up soon in your frustrating line of events. It sounds like Payless doesn't want your business. Now from your blog that is plenty of bad PR for them too. I love the Liz Claiborne outlet for shoes. I am an educator too and need very comfy shoes. I buy their basic colors and they last for years. In the long run you save money since you don't have to replace them as much. Plus they carry W sizes too. I use to wear wide, but it seems when I lost weight my foot shrunk too.

Years ago my mother sent a letter to her local bank asking them to provide a local phone number. To reach the local branch of the bank, you had to call their main office, and this was not a local number where she worked. A number that was local to the branch would have been. Nowadays, with cell phone plans and even in offices, this is usually not an issue. But in those days it was. She worked for a state agency, and I think it was a hassle (if even possible) to make long distance calls. And of course, you would only call about bank business during normal business hours.

They sent her a letter acknowledging the problem which concluded something like "Please call us if we can further assist you". Between computers and an overall decline in customer service, sometimes it is hard to get anywhere.

lol - totally understand! Some things you just have to laugh off I guess!

Try DSW - they're a bit more expensive, but way cheaper than department stores...

    Good luck!
