How does a motivator stay motivated?

That is a very good question. Since being given SP MOTIVATOR status (thanks again) I am getting a lot of questions about how to stay motivated. Here's what I've come up with.

You've got to get your mind right! Just DECIDE!
If your gonna be one of my friends then your gonna hear this A LOT! No matter what you read, what people say...positive or negative, how many motivational pages you read, until you DECIDE in your own mind that you are going to change nothing will. Things don't change people do; meaning your circumstances are what they are and their probably not going to change anytime soon so don't use them as road blocks. Get your mind to see them as obstacles. Every time you overcome an obstacle you will feel more motivated. Motivation leads to more motivation. So just decide to be motivated. This is the first step and it is HUGE but the only person who can make this happen is YOU!

Get and stay involved.
Of course since your here then that is something your trying to do. So now try a little harder. Commit to log on at least once a day and connect with someone, go to your fave team message board (your welcome to join my team called, Decide, Commit, Succeed) and read what people are up to and post and update yourself, it helps to get your thoughts out. Not to mention the YAY's and WOO HOO's you get to help keep you going. In real life find a few people to talk to and workout with. You kinda have to put yourself out there and tell people about your goals BUT, talk about motivation...it's really get's you moving to show people just what your made of. Invite people to do active things. From all the people I've invited to do active things with me, and there have been many, I've got 2 really great weekly workout buddies. We push each other.

Have a constant reminder of your goals and what you've achieved so far.
This can be a note you write yourself, a finishers medal, some before and after photo's. What ever it is keep it right where you are for most of your day where you can see it! For me, I'm creative so to painted myself a mug. Part of my plan is to drink a tonne of Green Tea (and water) so it's almost always in my hand or at least right next to me. Here's what it says. At the top edge: Decide, Commit, Succeed & KEEP GOING!

At the bottom: Fifty gone for good! 11/09

Inside, every time I take a sip: KEEP GOING!

For me this really keeps me motivated on moving forward, and I feel proud when I have it in my hands!

Talk to yourself.
Seriously, not out loud cause people might think your crazy but quietly in your mind talk to yourself. Use positive words, mantras, or quotes what ever helps. You can talk yourself into or out of anything, remember that. I talk to myself all the time and it works I'm living proof!

I could go on, but I won't instead I'd love to hear what YOU do, because actually that's another thing I do...use other people's motivational ideas!

I'll keep you posted, Celine

Great blog.....you put it perfectly! It is amazing at how many people will come by my page and say how motivating my page is to them but they disappear off Spark. It really is all about DECIDING

I too have logged in to spin the wheel and log my food everyday since July 3, 2008...I decided it was what I had to do to make it work for once and for all...

My motivation is posting a picture and blog the 4th of every month.....I just posted my 17th blog! The comments, encouragement and inspiration other Sparkers have given me keep me going everyday as well as my own determination.

Thanks again for the great blog!

I like it. You are right. It's funny I've always believed that until a person believes (DECIDES)that they are worth it that they will not be able to achieve there goals however I was thinking of a career or someone that has an addiction, etc. I never thought of it in the context of weight loss. Maybe I need to start thinking like that and DECIDE that I am worth the effort.

First love the mug. I am going to steal that idea. I motivate myself by talking to myself. If I am at that critical moment when I have to decide if I am going to have an unplanned indulgence or stay with my meal plan, I ask myself.. "If I was at my goal weight what would I do"? . emoticon the other question I use sometimes is "Will this (insert) get me closer to my "before" picture or "healthy" picture?"

It sounds crazy but 100% of the time it gets me back on track and focused on taking care of myself.

Love the mug! I think I need a hand painted water bottle to keep me on track with my daily water goals!

Great advice! Positive self talk along with a "just do it" attitude are critical. The hardest part is getting started. Once you do it (exercise/eat healthy/accomplish a goal) you will NEVER regret it, but if you don't do it, you are GUARANTEED to!

    Thanks for the motivation!
