About the biggest loser....

Wednesday, January 06, 2010

Alright, you guys already know how much I love the BL and that I credit it and Sp for my weight loss success but something disturbed me about the show last night. Why would you make severely obse people weight in in front of a huge crowd like that? I understand the shock effect and the ratings effect but I thought that was a little too much. It's one thing to take your shirt of in front of 20 strangers but a group of over 100? That was a little humiliating.
I also notice that they are adding more people who are very heavy so that you aren't really feeling sorry for them with game play. By this I mean, the last 2 seasons people really wanted Shay and Daniel to stay because they where the heaviest on the ranch by a good 100lbs over the other contestants... it was a life /death situation. That angle can't be played this season because they have so many contestants who are over 350lbs that each one of them is essentially equal. 526lbs, 484, 485. These numbers are astronomical. While watching my vision became distorted so that people looked small to me because they were ONLY 230lbs. That's crazy... It is definintely going to be a season full of surprises!
I like that everyone gets the benefit of both trainers.... I gues they must have read the SP blog on how running a marathon might be considered reckless without the proper training so they put the contestants on bikes instead because, you know that riding a bike for 26.2 miles is SO much easier LOL!
Anyway, my dvr is set to record the season so I don't have to worry about missing pieces while caring for the girls.

In other news, my workouts have been going great. I am sore but not so much that i can't breathe. Working out for 25 minutes strong and then having the rest of the day to do what i want and still feel results is awesome.
I'm supposed to be working so i need to get off the computer. Bye!

I agree completely. One of the issues all of us overweight or recently overweight people have had to deal with has been our destroyed self-images - I don't want to even imagine the depth of the shame and humiliation those people must have felt last night. Shame on BL.

I see it a LITTLE DIFFERENT... weigthing yourself in front of people makes you realize you need help. Thank you

I definitely don't miss an episode. :) I would definitely have a hard time weighing in front of so many people. But I guess if they are going on tv where thousands/millions are watching, that it can't be but so bad.
There are a lot of huge people this year. I guess the show is doing that for a few reasons. They know the people really need the help and to also show that there is no point that is too far gone. Even if you do weigh that much, there is hope for you and you can get back to a normal healthy weight.

I am losing interest in the show because all the contestants are so overweight. It is difficult to empathize with the situation. While I understand that these people need help, I think showing them unable to walk on a treadmill is cruel.

I wasn't to disturbed by them weighing in front of everyone. I mean, they do weigh in weekly on the show for MILLIONS. I don't know if I can do the TV thing, I'd rather weigh in with just my family (though I'd choose neither, but if I had to choose millions will not see all my stretch marks and stuff--UGH!) The part I didn't like was, I predicted that someone would get hurt from the bike challenge. Did not like being right there, but I thought it would be the yellow guy, because one look at him (and the fact that his wife needs to tie his shoes) I knew he was too sickly for the show. I HATED that those two teams had to leave, but I liked the twist.

I was disturbed by the show last night too. Weighing in in front of everyone had to be humiliating for them at a time when they should be applauded for beginning this journey. And what happened to the mom who couldn't complete the bike and had to literally be pulled off, not wanting to stop though she clearly needed to? That can't be good for them. I'll still watch because it's motiviating but I hope they show a little more concern for the well being of the contestants.
