Gearing up for the 2010 Self Challenge

Thursday, January 28, 2010

I've attempted the challenge every year for many years now (probably about 10 starts, some finished strong some not finished at all), with the culmination being the workout in the park (this will be year #5 at the workout in the park). Some years have been better than others, however this year promises to be a personally difficult challenge. I've gone up and down, as so many have, and after a couple of kids and now their busy sports and school schedule to get in the way, coupled along with being diagnosed with hypothyroid, I've "let myself go" over this past year. I am the biggest I've ever been. I'm 5'2" and starting out at roughly 180 (hopefully at 175 once the challenge starts!!) I've got two active boys, currently in basketball and soon to run into baseball (their season starting the same time as the challenge!), a wonderful (yet exercise & nutrition challenged such as myself!) husband and my baby girl a one year old English mastiff.

Being a full time working mother, all of this on my plate and being an active parent in my children's activities, and a volunteer for them as well makes it so easy for me to get stuck in the rut of putting myself off my priority list. I'm participating in this challenge this year for a whole new perspective, to gain that self confidence I once had and kick my newly re-established health kick into full gear.

My energy level is at an all time low, my nutrition has been filled with whatever I can get on the table fast. I know mentally what good food makes me feel like, its just difficult to get there when food is a side thought to dr. appointments, practices, recitals, homework, dishes and laundry. I mean really, chili dogs & tater tots at home is so much easier and quicker than a full meal.

At the start of this challenge I'm an overweight, overworked, tired mom, maid & short order cook by the end, I want to be me. I want to be lighter, happier, energized, woman. I'll always be a maid and a mother, but I want to feel good about me again, and I want to enjoy cooking healthy and beautiful food again too!

I'm going to change that repeating record of "I'm too tired" to "Lets hit it baby!" I want to hit the Workout in the Park going strong this year!

I admire your intent and purpose. As a fellow mom who can fill a million and one roles to those I love…. Just don’t forget that you sometimes need to bump your need, or appointment, or workout, up the ladder of importance. Often our kids are actually pleased that we are putting ourselves first every now and again. After all ‘mom’ is ranked awfully high in their important people list and they feel good when we rank ourselves that way too.

“Lets hit it.” And keep us posted on your journey.
