My own 10K
Saturday, March 27, 2010
Today our city held a 10K race. There was 37,000 walkers and runners participating in it. My wife and I was in charge of a conference at our church with about 100 people attending. Our church is located in the middle of the 10k. We warned the attendees of the conference that streets near the church would be closed. I spent the first three hours of the day trying to get people to our church. I was walking (almost running) to help and trying to give alternate directions over two cell phones at the same time. So I am sure that I covered the same mileage as the official walkers/runners in the 10k. Plus, the police blocked all of the entrances to our church. For the first time in marathon history, the event planners set up a Hip-hop, rock, funk band in front of our church, next to the room where the conference was being held. Needless to say, the band was loud and a huge distraction. All of the races and marathons in our city go by our church. But the event planners have always made sure they were sensitive to our church but not this year.
HOWEVER! GOD was good and everything turned out okay. I definitely had a workout today!
