Today’s DVD is the second disc from Lilias Yoga Fitness for Beginners. I reviewed the first DVD on Monday, May 24. That one was the Cardio Challenge and I found it very difficult.
This disc has three sections:
Arms & Abs – 30 minutes
Legs & Buns – 30 minutes
Guided Meditation (Audio Only)
I decided to do the Legs and buns since today is my lower body strength training day.
Once again, Lilias is aiming at people who are more advanced than me. This workout was very hard for me, with some parts completely impossible.
Several of the moves are done on your knees and/or sitting back on your feet. Both of those positions are really hard for me. I have these gardening pads that I bought for $1 each at Target recently.
I think you are supposed to kneel on one of them when your outside, but I thought they would be good on my knees for yoga. I’m glad to say that they worked pretty well. I still can’t go back onto my heels though.
There were a few moves that have you leaned back on your elbows, which I found an impossible way to hold myself. She also has a plank pose that I can’t do. I raised myself about 1 inch upwards which was not quite acceptable. This is not a move for the obese.
Also, a lot of the moves were too extreme for me. I used my Yoga Blocks to modify the poses so that I could do them. I was surprised that Lilias isn’t showing blocks, especially since this is supposed to be aimed at Beginners. There were also a couple of places where a yoga strap would help, so I will have that next to my in the future.
I still love Lilias, and I will try the Arm and Abs next time through, but this program is very hard for me. She has a 2 part set of AM and PM Yoga for Seniors. My library has that set, and it is much better for me.
I’ll see how much I improve over time, but I wonder if I will ever be able to do the poses on these DVD’s.
When I was done with this DVD I was able to lie back on my Balance Ball to stretch out my back. I learned how to do that move safely from yesterday’s DVD. So, I think this idea of going through all my DVD’s was a good one. I’m learning a lot, and definitely not bored by my workouts.
