Eating Humble Pie

I just went through a week of reckoning. One thing I did was calculate how many calories I should be eating based on my actual lifestyle. User EVILKLOWN was exactly correct. I require 1700 calories a day to lose one pound of weight a week. I have fifty pounds to lose to get to my goal of 180 pounds. That should take me a year. At that rate I can still lose about 25 pounds before the end of this year.

Since what I was doing myself was working and then it stopped, I have decided to follow the Spark meal plan for awhile and see if I can learn something.

Thanks to everybody for their comments on my last blog! I took them to heart and my next plan will include paying close attention to sodium intake again.

    Meal plans are not my thing at all (I have to be "in the mood" for foods), but I think they work really well for people that need some help with planning their meals and really learning about portion control, etc. Especially initially, it'll be good for you to know what you're having ahead of time and having it on hand so that it's there when you're hungry. You'll really be re-training your body to know when it's hungry and what an appropriate amount of food is and what full feels like (since it's probably gotten a little wonky...all of ours do, otherwise we wouldn't need to lose the weight ;) ). I agree with EVILKLOWN that you'll probably lose a bit more weight at the start and then it'll taper off. Good luck with the meal plan!!! Let us know how things are going!

    I do a lot of meal planning and try to make my lunch the night before so I'm not left hungry with only a half hour to eat something. It can help to get a jump start using menus already made for you, and when my mind goes blank I definitely use them too! Good luck! emoticon

    She is right. That is the way to go... you plan your meals and shop for exactly what you need without walking up and down the isles and picking up things you don't need. It will become a part of your life before you know it. It has help me and my family to eat healthier. emoticon emoticon emoticon

    I think you'll lose more than a pound a week for the first few months. In fact, if you limit yourself to 1700 per day, I'll bet you lose 3-5 pounds the first week and 3 pounds the second week ... and then 2 pounds a week for quite a while before it levels off.

    Going with the Spark meals plans is smarter overall but probably a little bit more trouble since you'll have to shop around those meals. I guess you have to shop anyway so it won't me too much more trouble. I think they give you a grocery list and so forth.

    Soooo, are you going to do it? I'm all a-twitter with anticipation.
