My DVD Challenge - WATP Express 1 Mile Walk
Sunday, May 30, 2010
Today’s DVD is the 1 Mile Easy Walk from Leslie Sansone’s Walk Away the Pounds Express. The DVD includes a 2 Mile and a 3 Mile walk as well. This is the first fitness DVD I purchased and I used to do this walk a few times each week back in 2007-2008 when I first joined Spark People. Then it got lost in the house while I was getting my MBA, and just recently resurfaced as I have been cleaning up the last 2 years of clutter.
I really love this DVD. It is 20 minutes total and uses the stretchy bands during the last quarter of a mile to work your arms, shoulders, back and chest. The great thing about the stretchy bands is that you make the resistance more or less intense by where you grab the band. I remember when I first started this DVD; I used to have to stop it when I got to the stretchy band part – that’s how out of shape I was.
Today I did the whole DVD, but I did less resistance reps – my arms were tired. I had Arthritis swim class for an hour this morning and the instructor really focused on arms. We’ll see how I feel tomorrow, but I think my arms will be sore.
I’ve tried the 2 Mile a couple of times in the past, and I know I can do it now. I’ll keep working this DVD through the rotation. Today I did not want to workout, but I definitely felt better after I had done it. This one is intense enough for me to break a sweat in only one mile.
I love how Leslie talks to her walking buddies throughout the walk. This one has 55 year old Carol, a Grandma who looks great, 73 year old Alton who is pretty darn hot for his age (or any age), 27 year old Stephanie and several other walkers who are not all “perfect” in body shape. For some reason, I feel like I am part of this group – if think Leslie’s personality just draws you in.
I am so glad I’m doing this blogging. I’m close to halfway through my DVD’s and I appreciate what I have a lot more now. Doing something different each day has kept it interesting and I feel like I’m finally getting my money’s worth out of these DVD’s. I’m not a gym rat at all. I get all disturbed about germs, and I just can’t enjoy it. So this is the best way for me to get different types of exercise.
All spring I was walking late at night 4-5 times a week, training for my bridge walk. I actually miss being out like that, but I really needed a break from it. I think when I’m done with this pass through my DVD’s I’ll add some walking back.
I’m still astounded that this is the person I am now. Last fall 10 minutes a day was a challenge for me. This week I have over 600 minutes of exercise. That’s high for me and is due to this DVD challenge. I admit to feeling tired after doing this all week, but it’s better than feeling stuffed and lethargic from doing nothing and eating badly. It seems like I will have arthritis pain no matter what, so I might as well be more fit and active.
