My DVD Challenge - Total Body Challenge Balance Ball - Tanja Djelevic

Today’s DVD is the Total Body Challenge Balance Ball workout with Tanja Djelevic. This is the 2nd program that came with my Gaiam Balance Balls, and it is the more advanced version. The “easier” DVD was with Suzanne Deason, and I reviewed it on Thursday, May 27.

In summary - Gaiam does not seen to have a grip on how difficult these stability balls are for some people.

This is a 60 minutes workout that comes in 3 parts:

Lower Body
Upper Body

You can also play the entire program without breaks. I chose to do the Abs part today since it’s my Abs Strength Training day.

In this DVD you use a Stretchy Band as well as the Balance Ball. You also wear shoes. I was not expecting that since the other DVD was done barefoot. A lot of the moves are done lying on your back on the ball and you need the shoes since your feet are holding your weight. There is a lot of crunching and the Pilates 100. There’s also a section on your knees and lying on the floor holding the ball above you.

Tanja has two assistants behind her, but unfortunately no one is doing a modified easier routine. That would have been helpful as this was a very difficult routine for me. I tried to modify where I could, but I don’t have skills in that area. I did better than I expected though, and I think I could improve.

I looked at the beginning of the Lower Body Workout, and it is way beyond my skill level. it has lots of deep, quick, squats and lunges that are completely out of the question for me right now. I will probably keep this DVD on the back burner for a few months and then try again. I have the Beginners Balance Ball workouts on their way to me, so if I do those regularly, I might progress up to this level (one day in the future).

Tanja is another quiet, calm instructor. The video is films in a gorgeous outdoor mountain setting. I looked her up on You Tube to find that all of her programs are quite advanced, so I think I will be seeing her later!


I had my swimming class this morning and it was cold! No sun and a broken pool heater. It reminded me that I really do not want to swim outside in the winter, so I will have to come up with something else.

June Update:

I’m doing great with exercise, and pretty good with eating lately. I am not doing a full blown update now because of my DVD reviews, but I can say things are going well. One day, I might even lose some weight :).

I’m just going to keep on keepin’ on for June and hope to stay consistent and have nothing throw me off course. I thought I would have a big letdown after the Bridge Walk was accomplished, but not so far. June 30 will be the halfway point of the year, so I’ll really examine things further at that time.
