I did it!!

For the first time, I was able to do a slow (and I do mean slow) jog around the entire park! It's about 1 1/4 miles roughly, and I didn't stop until I reached the end. I am SO excited! Of course, my Achilles was numb during the process, but now it throbs (always does after walking or lawn cutting, so this is nothing new sadly). My chest and breathing felt pretty good throughout. It was more my lower back that was getting sore (no doubt from the tummy bouncing up and down LOL!) It felt like my butt was going to bounce off the asphalt with every step I took, which I've noticed is the biggest discomfort out of everything, but even that went away after away (the feeling, not my butt) emoticon

I'm just tickled as can be that I did this. And it was all on a whim. My husband and I were taking our dog for a walk and I decided to just to a slow jog next to them...and then I just kept jogging. People were passing us left and right in their own versions of slow runs (looked like racers compared to me!) and I didn't feel the least bit self-conscious. My gray t-shirt will all darkened from sweating and I just kept going.

This gives me great hope to be able to do this more and more as I get stronger and more fit.

    WAY TO GO!!!! You are awesome! I'm so happy for you I remember the first time I ran a whole 5K without taking a walk break... it is such a high!

    I don't know what your post workout routine is currently, but stretching followed by 15 min of ice on a chronic problem spot (like your Achilles) made a big difference for me. Plus, I have forced myself to live by the mandate, if you don't have the time to do the warm up and cool down properly, don't do it. In the past I have been really bad about "running through pain" and ended up with some nasty overuse injuries.

    This is so awesome!! I am so proud of you. Isn't it amazing the things we can learn about ourselves and our strength on "whims"? You are right, it doesn't matter how fast you were going... you jogged over a mile without stopping. YAY!! Remember... I only did that for the first time last December. Pretty soon you'll be doing this more and more and you'll surprise yourself with how much you can accomplish. Keep believing and keep pushing.

    Great job Shannon!!! You totally rock. I noticed no comments on the girls, so you must have good control going on there. If you are self concious about the bounce... get some compression shorts. They work wonders for the loose parts. Trust me!!!!

    As far as the pace... there will always be someone faster. you are your own competitor, so go by your won pace and work to better yourself by your own standards.

    Awesome job!!! I am smiling like crazy over here.

    I did a mile today @ 12 min/mi on the treadmill. I only held the rails a couple of times. That being said, there's a HUGE difference between treadmill running and running outside. Outside is much more difficult. Congrats! I hope to be there with you soon.

    I am certain all close friends must feel the same way I do!


    For me jogging is something haunting my mind for years now, and for the same reason DACIUS represents my paradigm of hard exercising beyond excuses and obstacles. I am sure if I was to spend three months with him as a trainer, the experience would be similar to the training that Rocky Balboa undertook when preparing to face Ivan Drago… LOL

And you are right, no need to feel self-conscious...no one gives a rats "you know what" how you look because you were doing something the majority of people today weren't...getting that body to move. (Make sure you ice and stretch that that achilles tendon well or whatever your doc has told you to do :-)) emoticon
