What Happened?

I ate well within range each day and exercised everyday but Tuesday including running, stretching, and stationary cycling. I gained five pounds this week and I am at a new all-time high. I am hurt and confused. This is a dark hour (literally, it is before 6 am). This reminds me of the time I was up late finishing a six-page paper. I was into it about four pages when my computer crashed. None of my work was saved and the computer was totally dead anyway--black screen. I lay down on my bed with my face in my pillow and I asked myself Is this it? Is this the day you fall down and give up? No.

Calmly, I got up and went to a 24 hour Kinko's and spent a lot of money on the by the minute computers as I re-created my paper from scratch and finished it. Perhaps it wasn't my finest work but in a sense it was one of my finest hours.

With that being said I am going to do my run this morning and keep tracking my nutrition with the range of 1450-1800 calories.

    emoticon I'm sure you will be getting into the swing of things soon. You just have to find you groove and jump in. I'm sure sooner than later you'll find your correct formula for weight loss! Whether its eating a little less, or even a little more, a little more exercise, water, vitamins...whatever! emoticon

    (Oh and try taking your measurements too bc we all know just because the scale isn't moving...your belt loops still can be :) )

    i am wondering if we are retaining more water because of the heat or something? my scale jumped up as well, trying not to let it get me down and just keep on the right path, i know it will head back the right direction soon if i keep it up. just trying to add a bit of variation to the fitness routine and eat a few days higher and a few days lower each week...i have high hopes for both of us!!

    Keep it up. My daughter went through this and she did not loose for a few weeks and I had to keep telling her to keep it up and soon enough her muscles will trust her. Well after about a month she had a break through and despite some challenges with her schedule and doing some hanging out with friends she has managed to maintain that loss. AND SO SHALL YOU DO THE SAME!! OH yea and I experienced the same thing.

    I'm sorry. You couldn't have gained that much weight because you need to eat 3500 calories over your BMR (which should be over 2000 in your case) to gain a pound. I would chalk it up to water retention and keep up the good work!

    Oh, I'm so sorry!! I know how hard you've been working! I would keep at it, especially since you've been working out and (at least for me) that can slow down or even cause gains on the scale when you're starting out (I'll look for the article on SP that addresses it, but it basically has to do with the fact that when you first start working out, or increase the frequency or intensity of your workouts, the muscles actually retain more water and you can gain weight---ah-ha, found it: http://www.dailyspark.com/blog.asp?
    _you_start_a_new_workout_plan). That doesn't mean that you stop working out, it does mean that you need to keep at it for awhile and slowly over time the weight will come off. I can't urge you enough to look at other measures such as your measurements & how your clothing is fitting.

    Oh man! That is a dark hour...but it's always darkest just before dawn, isn't it?

    You know that getting out and doing it today is going to be your finest hour, even if you don't have your heart in it...you could have just given up. Please don't, stick it out and the reward will be huge when the dawn breaks.

    Oh, and I'm not sure why, but your blog entry is showing up on my friends feed multiple times. Looking down the friend feed, it almost looks like you just keep asking, "What Happened?" over and over again. I know that's how I feel sometimes!

    I'm not sure what to tell you. Are you getting enough nutrition your body needs based on the amount of exercise you're doing? Are you stressed? Are you about to start your period? Are you retaining water? Are you drinking enough water?

    Hang in there! It'll get better!

    And I wish I was still in bed. I have no reason to be up before 6 am, but here I am...
