Enough Garlic to Scare Away the Vampires?

Saturday, October 30, 2010

IL State employees get paid on the 14th and 29th. Suz was too tired (after babysitting her GD an hour away...see photo) to go out last night. Tonight we dined at a favorite restaurant (www.leonas.com).

While she had cajun style shrimp, I had my favorite garlic and Parmesan baked chicken breasts. Along with it I had broccoli agli olio (Suz did, too). Yum! This wonderful meal was preceded by Leona's famous minestrone soup (no crackers for me). I did have a couple small pieces of the bread with the whipped garlic cheese butter.

I brought home the little cupcake thingies. Maybe I'll have one with coffee in the morning.

Does anyone else think that there will be no vampires showing up at our door tomorrow?

I had this meal all planned, you see. When I indulge in my garlic meals, the odor seems to come out of everything...even the pores on my skin. I took a furlough day for Monday, we have Tuesday off to vote. I don't go back to work until Wednesday! Hopefully, it will be worn off by then.

Now, here is the COOLEST thing! We haven't been to Leona's in six months. I was laid off all summer and our dining out was limited. The manager (with a name pronounced like Zoo Hair) always remembers us. HE COMMENTED THAT I HAD LOST WEIGHT AND SAID I LOOKED GREAT!

All this because of Spark People: tracking water, watching intake, eating more frequently but wiser and less at a time, figuring in treats so I don't feel deprived, baby steps to fitness (today I did 30 minutes of stretching, strength and isometrics along with 20 minutes on the elliptical exercise bike and a mile walk), articles, blogs, recipes...and, most important the support of my terrific Spark Friends, old and new.

I hope all of you have a Spooktacular Halloween....you'll be getting all the vamps. I won't.

Way to go on the meal and the compliment. It really helps to push us along when other people notice what we have been working so hard at. What a perfect "dessert" compliments of the chef!!!

People who hate Garlic need to get over it already.

Congrats on the compliment!! I'm a fan of garlic myself...should've thought to have some on Halloween too. Didn't get too many trick-or-treaters though.

No vampires for me, thank you, unless they're the vegetarian type like in the Twilight series. Sounds like an excellent meal and a really good manager. Happy Halloween!

There's nothing more satisfying than when someone you haven't seen in a while notices your efforts.
THAT is so AWESOME , my dear Peggy!

I think I'll join the vampires and stay away from your door as well. Don't want to get blasted by the garlic!
And yes, the garlic smell does seep out of your pores, too.
