Tracking other Sparkers who have lost interest

Saturday, December 25, 2010

So I've been following a few people on Spark. I check on them once a week (usually on Saturdays) and usually leave a comment on their page. I keep a spreadsheet with a column for each person so I can see how they're doing over time.

Sometimes people lose interest. They stop updating their current status, stop posting blogs, and stop updating their weight ticker.

I still stop by their page and leave a note ... cuz I know how it is when you're going the other way and you don't want to admit it. Those of us with over-sized egos know the humiliation only too well.

Never the less, it grows tiresome when you try to be encouraging and the person never responds ... you begin to realize you're bothering the person more than helping.

(Yeah, yeah ... I know ... "third person." Save it.)

Therefore I have instituted new rules for "following." If your current status doesn't show (I think you have to go a week for it to drop off,) or posted a blog in the last month, or updated your weight ticker in the last month, then I will assume you have lost interest.

Yikes! I hope you are still following me! Let me know what I can do to get reinstated. I still have so much to learn but you have helped me with all kinds of things like honestly tracking and moving the ticker on Friday and actually reducing calories and countless other things. I can't seem to do it all the time but I didn't even know how to have a plan before. You are my mentor.

(Ever see the show Scrubs? His mentor is mean to him all the time, too.)

    Merry Christmas!

You're policy to keep up with others makes a lot of sense. You can only pursue and encourage for so long before you're not doing yourself or the other person any good. Speaking personally, back in spring when I was deep in the preparation for my dissertation and just not able to keep up with Spark for a while, I was very saddened when I realized you'd given up following my progress. But I also understood that if I wasn't responding, it wasn't worth your time to continue coaching and encouraging.

Anyway, I just want you to know that your efforts DO mean something to others and are very helpful!

I think it's great that you support fellow Sparkers Evil, maybe some are too busy in "the real world" to think about updating,
But I see your point and respect it emoticon emoticon

It's very interesting, what you do. It doesn't demands a lot of work and makes all the difference for others. Fortunately, you have set up rules that doesn't make YOU get tired of it. Congrats for the rearrangement! That shows that you have the true spirit of flexibility. =)
